One of the saddest lines of dialogue in KPop Demon Hunters is when Rumi reached the very end of her journey to rid herself of her “patterns”. After being humiliated publicly by her enemies and abandoned privately by her friends, Rumi had finally lost all hope. Her faith in achieving the “golden honmoon” that would rid her of the “patterns” she carried was gone, and in her darkest and most desperate hour she admitted that she “thought she could fix it all”. She had convinced herself that by keeping her struggle secret and simply pushing through until she reached her goals, she would solve this problem on her own. But in the end she learned she was NEVER going to be able to defeat the darkness by herself… and she was never meant to.
Too many times I’ve attempted to perform the work of the Lord without allowing the Lord to do the work through me… in my stubborn pride I wanted to accomplish His will my way. But the Lord never asked us to fulfill any part of His plan in our strength alone… while we still have to perform actions in alignment with His directions, our missions can only be completed through our submission to Him. Our best efforts to make His promises come true will always result in failure, so let’s resist the urge to “just do it” and choose to be an obedient conduit for His power instead.
