For a warrior who protects the planet through both her combat prowess as well as her singing skills, losing her voice was a problem Rumi could not afford to have. The internal battle she was contending with was stripping her of her most critical weapon, but she found the healing she was seeking from a very unexpected source. In an ironic twist, it was her attempt to support and save Jinu that ultimately restored her damaged vocal cords. The act of trying to help another soul in need, even while she was still struggling with her own problems, was the cure for her own affliction… she discovered the healing she was seeking by trying to heal someone else’s pain.
While it might feel a lot more convenient if the Lord waited until we got our lives together before He uses us to accomplish His will, the truth is we are typically still in the midst of our mess when He guides us to support others who are also hurting and in need of help. These unwanted afflictions that disrupt our lives often contain divine intersections that are designed to provide healing to two seemingly disconnected pains, so let’s not wait until after we are through our own struggles in life before we reach out to others who are suffering. He has called us to share our umbrella in the middle of our storm… and the pain we end up healing might just be our own.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
