Once of the most fascinating and most easily missed details in KPop Demon Hunters is the changing color of Rumi’s sword. When she is hunting down and fighting the darkness for the right reasons her sword glows with a clean and clear blue light… but when her motivations are flawed (such as when attacking Jinu on the rooftop or offering her blade to Celine to end her journey) her blade turns to the pinkish/red hue associated with her enemy. Her sword’s color is a reflection of the condition of her heart in each moment, a visual demonstration of the purity of her intentions as they bleed into the blade.
Our internal motivations matter… fighting the right demons for the wrong reasons will always end in the wrong result. The Bible is packed with cautionary tales of those who thought that they were serving the Lord with their actions but their hearts were far from His… so before we go into battle on His behalf today, let’s prayerfully align our hearts and minds with Him first. Those we are seeking to fight might be the very souls He sent us to save, so before we swing our “sword” today, let’s shine the piercing light of His Word on our hearts first to reveal the shadows we need to deal with in our own lives. In our battles against the darkness, the first demons we need to hunt down and defeat are usually our own.
