Man, Ubisoft will do anything rather than announce the remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, won’t they? Today, the distraction is free story content for Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. You win this round, Ubisoft.
The official Assassin’s Creed account made the announcement, but kept details thinner than Basim’s hidden blade. We will apparently be getting a, “New story chapter & missions set in 9th century AlUla.” later this year. Along with that, general gameplay improvements are being promised.
All of this will be for the low, low cost of absolutely nothing.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage launched in 2023 as a smaller project that felt a little like a step back to the series’ roots. I actually rather enjoyed it. The last we heard, the game had sold around 5m copies in its first three months, and the latest speculation placed it at around 7-8 million. That’s quite successful, although I’m still surprised Ubisoft has deemed it worth throwing out free DLC this far after launch. Perhaps the game has had a stronger tail than even the speculation thought?
But more likely is that reporting from earlier this year is accurate. Ubisoft and the Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) apparently had a meeting last year, and as a result there was an agreement to fund DLC for Mirage.
