Act 4 of Path of Exile II is full of mysteries and excellently designed bosses. The areas are beautiful, the water is gorgeous, and the enemies are keen to gobble you up!
When searching around the various islands of the fourth act, you might have come across a torn piece of a map. But where on earth are the rest of the pieces, and where in Wraeclast do they lead?
In this guide, I will show you how to put the map together and introduce you to one of the important endgame mechanics that you’ll be seeing a little way down the road.
The Four Quarters
The Map Pieces can be found on these four islands:
- Whakapanu Island
- Shrike Island
- Isle of Kin
- Kedge Bay
Due to the fact that every time you start a PoE 2 map, it’s completely randomised, I can’t exactly point you in the specific direction of the map pieces themselves.
However, each is generally found next to a checkpoint. Check in caves on Shrike Island, encampments on Whakapanu Island, and generally just in every part of the map that seems to be obscured. Keep opening the full map, and you’ll find the pieces eventually, even if it requires you to search the whole palace from top to bottom. I know how it feels.
The map piece will always be in the first area of every island. You won’t find any pieces in any sub-areas.
You’ll know you’re in the right place when you find a corpse with green text above its head.
Once you’ve collected all four pieces, travel back to Makoru on board your ship, and she will assemble the pieces for you.
The Expedition to Plunder’s Point
Set Sail to Plunder’s Point, and you can summon Dannig. You will learn a bit of information about how the Expedition mechanic works.
If you’ve done any mapping in PoE2, then you will certainly have done this before, alongside events like Breaches and Rituals. But if this is your first time through the campaign, then this will be brand new.
Here, you have a certain amount of explosives that you can set up around the area. The explosives are all linked to one another, and so you can only set them up a certain distance away.
The main goal here is to place as many explosives as possible upon the signs and flags that are scattered around the map. You can also blow up Remnants that will increase the rarity of items found, or the amount that are found, while buffing the monsters that spawn.
Beware of Runic monsters. They can be quite powerful, especially if you accidentally give them a 100% resistance to your main damage type.
While it’s tempting to blow up as many remnants as possible, there’s no point if barely any monsters spawn, so try and balance monster spawns, excavated chest spawns, and remnants. A little of everything is a good strategy here. Once you’ve placed all the explosives, head back to Dannig and press the Detonator to begin the event.
Once you’re done clearing out the enemies, you can travel around, opening all the chests and picking up the loot that you’ve earned from the expedition. This encounter is far easier than the ones that you will come across later on in the mapping stage, so beware.
