It’s no shock that Act 4 of Path of Exile II can be a little bit confusing, even for the most seasoned ARPG players. The newest and most open campaign sees players sailing to various islands in search of the missing parts of a powerful weapon used to control the corruption.

However, this part is completely open, giving players the choice of where they want to travel next. While this is a fantastic piece of design, giving players unlimited freedom, sometimes it’s not totally clear where to go.

If you happen to come across the Great White One on your journey and find yourself burdened by a large quest item in your inventory, I’ll show you exactly where to go so you don’t spend the rest of the campaign with a limited inventory.

Whakapanu Island

Once you’ve managed to find yourself a ship, the first place you need to go is Whakapanu Island. This map has a few huge enemies, like the Elephant Tortoises that charge through the jungle to trample you into the ground. This, coupled with a maze of narrow corridors, makes for a tricky little island map.

Watch out for any Abyssal Events that spawn, as the map can get pretty cramped if you’re not careful!

There is a cave on the map that leads to the Diamora, Song of Death boss, but we don’t want to tackle that just yet. Instead, keep searching the island until you find a large, round arena that looks out over the ocean. Walk over to the opening in the rocks, and you will trigger a fight with The Great White One.

The Great White One

This boss is pretty easy to deal with simply by keeping your distance. It only deals regular physical damage, so you don’t have to worry about your elemental resistances. If needed, try to find some boots with added movement speed. That’ll help you keep your distance, whether you’re melee or ranged.

Attack Name

Description

How To Avoid

Claw Swipe

The boss will snap at you and then sweep his claw back to catch you when you’re behind him.

Try and roll to the left-hand side of the boss (his left), or roll backwards out of reach.

Tail Whip

The Great White One will lunge forward and spin around, sweeping his tail and kicking up a large cloud of dust.

For this attack, try and stay behind him if possible, as he has a lot of forward momentum here.

Biting Leap

If you stand too far away, the boss will jump at you to close the distance. He may simply bite at you or dive headfirst into the sand.

The easiest way to dodge this is simply by rolling to the side or right under him.

Surprise Attack

When the boss starts swimming through the sand, he may emerge to bite at you, up to 3 consecutive times. Every time he shoots up, he will leave a pool of biting fish that will damage you if you stand within it.

Keep moving, and sprint if you have you. Try and make him jump up in the same spot to minimise the area of the fish pools.

Desert Storm

This is basically his ultimate attack. When underground, the Great White One will start circling, and a large vortex will spawn. The vortex will then spit out 2 smaller tornadoes, which will travel across the arena.

Stay well away from the vortex, and then kite the tornadoes around the arena until they despawn. You can still attack the boss if the tornadoes are far enough away.

Once you whittle away all of the boss’ health, he will drop a Shark Fin, which you will have to deliver.

Finding Kaimana

Immediately set sail to Ngakanu and find Kaimana, who is in a small settlement to the east. She’s very close to where you leave the ship, so it won’t take long.

Exhaust her dialogue and give her the Shark Fin. Upon delivery, she will offer you a choice of 3 different gems:

  • Level 11 Skill Gem
  • Level 11 Spirit Gem
  • Level 4 Support Gem

Pick whichever is most useful to you, but I would recommend choosing the Spirit Gem as they’re generally a bit harder to find.
