Quick Links

Welcome, my dear bracers, to the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter walkthrough. Before we begin, a few announcements to explain what these guides are about.

The purpose of these chapter-by-chapter walkthroughs of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is to show all the missable collectibles, such as chests, recipes, and books, as well as the correct answers for each subquest.

This means I won’t be making a guide on how, when, and where to solve subquests, since they show up on the map and are easy to complete. But whenever they offer bonus BP for an extra activity or a correct answer, I’ll let you know.

These walkthroughs were written in chronological order, and I’ll highlight which recipe, book, or subquest I’m discussing, so feel free to use them as you progress through your journey in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter.

I’ll avoid spoilers as much as possible, but there might still be a few minor ones either in screenshots or descriptions, mainly when I need to point out where we are in the story.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter – Collectibles Types

There are three types of collectibles in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter tied to trophies: cooking recipes, books, and chests. Also, we have some choices which grants bonus BP on quests conclusion.

Each chapter of the game is highly linear and doesn’t allow backtracking to previous regions, so every collectible is technically missable — progress carries over into NG+.

All Cooking Recipes

One collectible is finding all the cooking recipes. Most are obtained by buying in stores, but a few are tucked away in chests or rewarded from subquests.

There’s a trophy for cooking every dish, as well as their Peculiar Dish versions, which happen when your cook botches the recipe and ends up making another dish. These oddball recipes have their own usage bonuses and are worth hunting down, too.

Usually, the emoji above the character indicates their odds of failing or succeeding with a given recipe, but that’s not always reliable. I’ve had cases where the less skilled cook got it right, and the opposite also happened. The best approach is the age-old completionist trick: save-scum.

Peculiar dishes don’t give a First Time Bonus and use the same ingredients as the original recipe, so I’ll only list their practical effects when used as an item. There are also Customized Dishes, which are created when a cook gets a light bulb moment. Cook the dish once and voilà, a new one appears.

All Book Locations

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter continues the Trails series’ phenomenal work at building a top-notch world. One of the ways it does this is through books, which tell stories about characters from other regions and often serve as foreshadowing.

The Remake added one new book, I wager, which is an NPC’s diary in the Prologue. And even though all books show up on the map as points of interest, they can sometimes be overlooked or hidden inside residences. Since classic Trails is merciless with missables, I suggest picking them up as soon as they appear — even though they may be purchasable down the road.

In this guide, I’ll list every book location in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter to ensure you’re well-fed with the game’s lore while also securing the best weapons for Estelle and Joshua at the end of your reading.

All Correct Bracer Choices

Since there are trophies and rewards for reaching the maximum Rank in the Bracer Guild, I’ll also list which extra activities are required to (if possible) earn bonus Bracer Points.

By the end of the game, I had a surplus of 45 Bracer Points above Rank 1. In other words, the game is lenient with mistakes, and you might not even need to grab any bonus BP if you complete every subquest. But anyway, I’ll highlight the ones that do give Bonus BP.

One detail to note is whether the dialogue choice is brown or red. If it’s brown, pick whichever you like. If it’s red or has a BP icon at the start, that means there’s an opportunity to earn extra points.

All Chest Locations

Nihon Falcom was generous enough to make chests show up on the map as you explore. Still, it’s possible to miss one or two. To avoid dragging things out, I won’t list every single chest’s exact spot.

Instead, I’ll provide screenshots of each area, showing where new chests can be found, so you can use them for orientation if you’re missing any. Some areas with multiple floors can be a bit confusing, so apologies in advance.

Alright, without further ado, let’s get on with our Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter walkthrough.

Rolent

Book – Luke’s Diary

As soon as you arrive in Rolent for the first time, head to Luke’s house, to the left of Abend’s Bar. Go upstairs to the second floor and you’ll find the boy’s diary on the table in the first room.

Maple Cookie is the first recipe we learn, and it acts as a tutorial for the Cooking feature. It also features a peculiar dish, Rock-Hard Cookies.

It’s a great chance to test how the feature works and also start hunting the failed dish right away, since the ingredients can be bought directly from Rianon – the guy who gives you the recipe – and they’re pretty cheap.

Book – Carnelia Vol. 1

After becoming a Junior Bracer, you should explore the town again. Go once more to the second floor of Luke’s house and this time talk to Rhett, the boy’s father. He’ll give you Carnelia Vol. 1.

Recipes – Wholesome Pasta / Fried Potatoes / Flowery Soda / Carmine’s Eye

All you need to do is buy snacks and meals from Abend Bar and eat them to learn how to cook.

Prepare a Carmine’s Eye with Estelle to unlock Energy Smoothie, your first customized dish.

Jade Tower

Bonus BP – Child Rescue

Correct Choice

Bonus BP

Storm in Together with Joshua

+1

When trying to leave Rolent, Aina will give you a mission. This is your first decision point and the moment when you’ll learn that choices matter.

Once you reach Jade Tower to rescue the boys, head to the second floor. When you get there, a cutscene will play and you’ll be prompted to make a choice. Pick “Storm in Together with Joshua” to earn an extra BP on the quest report.

Rolent

Recipe – Drill Meatballs

After the farewell scene, new subquests will appear at the Bracer Guild. The first is called Shiny Stone Search and works as a tutorial for subquests.

Just follow the markers on the map and you’ll complete it quickly. Upon finishing, you’ll get Drill Meatballs from the sassy boy Carl, and you’ll learn the recipe after eating them.

Book – Liberl News Issue 1

The game automatically gives you this edition of Liberl News. However, in classic Trails in the Sky, you still needed to have the item in your inventory for the achievement to count.

So with that in mind, I recommend repurchasing the first edition at Rinon’s General Goods in Rolent.

Perzel Farm

Bonus BP – Perzel Pest Control

Correct Action

Bonus BP

Catch the monster without being discovered

+2

Your first official mission will be to deal with monsters at Perzel Farm. At nightfall, you’ll need to investigate a few places on the farm until the monster shows up.

When it does, the game itself will tell you to capture it by avoiding its line of sight. If you fumble, the monster will just move to another spot. But if you catch it on your first try, you’ll earn extra BP.

It’s easy to wait for the monster to turn around and then approach. Just being close isn’t enough since you’ll have to press the action button as you get near. Be careful not to sprint like I did, or you’ll go right through the monster and it’ll spot you. I suggest saving before trying.

Jade Tower

Recipe – Dreamy Shell Bake

You’ll eventually be free to explore all of Rolent’s region whenever you want. Although the story will eventually lead you to Jade Tower, I recommend visiting now to avoid issues with guest characters.

If you do, on the third floor of Jade Tower, you’ll find a chest containing Dreamy Shell Bake. Eat it to learn a new recipe.

Milch Main Road

Bonus BP – Streetlight Switch

Correct Choice

Bonus BP

544818

+1

After clearing the monster at Perzel Farm, new subquests will appear at the guild. One of them is Streetlight Switch, where you’ll need to fix a lamp on Milch Main Road.

The first choice decides who fights the monsters. If you pick Estelle, Joshua will handle the repairs like a pro, and you’ll automatically earn bonus BP.

But if you pick Joshua, Estelle will need to remember the code. Freddy gave it to you when explaining the repairs, but in case you forgot, it’s 544818.

Verte Bridge

Bonus BP – Troop Training

Correct Action

Bonus BP

No party member KO

+2

This mission has you go to Verte Bridge to spar with some soldiers. To earn bonus BP, you need to win the fight without anyone being KO’d.

Or maybe just winning was enough. I’m not sure because it was pretty easy. Anyway, I recommend saving first, and if you lose, reload and try again.

Rolent

Bonus BP – Mayoral Robbery

Correct Choice

Bonus BP

Something worth a lot of mira

+4

A group of three or four

From the second floor terrace

A traveler that visited recently

There are two chances to earn extra BP in this quest. The first is in Mayour Klaus house and the second is in Mistwald.

The main story will take you to investigate a crime scene at Mayor Klaus’s house. You’ll be required to check several points of interest before reporting back to Scherazard.

When you do, Schera will ask you some questions. If you give all the correct answers, you’ll earn a solid four bonus Bracer Points. Try guessing them on your own first because it’s pretty amusing.

Mistwald

Correct Action

Bonus BP

Grr…fine

+1

The second opportunity comes when you’re chasing the robbers through Mistwald. Josette will start mocking Estelle, but don’t take the bait and just keep listening by choosing “Grr…fine” to net one more BP.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter – Prologue Chest Locations

Here’s a list of every Prologue area, followed by one or more screenshots showing the chest locations.

Elize Highway

The region between Bright’s House, Rolent, and Gurune Gate.

Malga Trail

The trail leading to Jade Tower.

Milch Main Road

The road between Rolent and Verte Bridge.

Jade Tower

I suggest visiting Jade Tower before chaperoning Nial and Dorothy cause guests suck in battle.

Mistwald

The forest you’ll visit in the Prologue’s last main quest.

And with that, you’ll have officially completed the Prologue. Feel free to check out our Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter: Chapter 1 Walkthrough & All Collectibles next.
