What separates competitive fighting games from FPS games like Valorant and Counter Strike 2 or MOBAs like League of Legends and DOTA 2 is that your wins and losses are completely your fault.
Sure, you can have a bad match or two due to a poor connection every once in a while, but aside from that, there are no “bad teammates” to blame if things go south unless you deliberately choose to play duos.
Recently, 2XKO confirmed the release of their Ranked mode on the 18th. It hasn’t even been a full day since the mode is out, and, to no one’s surprise, there are pros who have already achieved the highest rank, Challenger. The game recently shared the leaderboard, and the number 1 player has already been dethroned.

If 2XKO is your first fighting game, or you don’t follow the pro scene as much, then Cloud805 and SonicFox are both professionals who have been competing since 2013. Cloud805 has recently been playing Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and is also known for competing in tournaments for Dragon Ball FighterZ, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Guilty Gear -STRIVE-.
SonicFox is the current EVO and Combo Breaker 2025 champion for Mortal Kombat 1. He also used to play previous MK games like Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat X, and Mortal Kombat (2011), and competed in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Skullgirls, Injustice 2, and many other popular fighting games.
2XKO is still in Closed Beta, and the competition is already this fierce. It will be very interesting to see how this game shapes up as it gets closer to full release.
For the upcoming EVO France, 1654 players registered for Street Fighter 6 and 1156 for Tekken 8 at the time of writing this article. 2XKO being free to play makes it even more accessible for new players to try it out. So it is safe to say that fighting games are definitely back!
