Borderlands 4 September 18 Patch Notes Come With A Heartfelt Message

Earlier today, we reported that Gearbox was hard at work on developing updates targeted at improving Borderlands 4‘s performance issues.

True to their word, today’s update is now live. In what is expected to be the first of several patches addressing the game’s poor performance, Gearbox is tackling instances where the game is crashing due to various circumstances. Some of these are GPU-related, while others are due to various technical hiccups.

NVIDIA has also put out an optimization guide to ensure everyone’s Borderlands 4 experience is the best it can be.

The update comes with a heartfelt message from the game’s developers.

“Hey, Vault Hunters!

We want to thank you for welcoming Borderlands 4 to the world. It’s been less than a week since the game launched, and it’s been incredible watching millions dive into Kairos and forge connections with new Vault Hunters.

Thank you.

We’re reading every piece of feedback you share. We know some PC players are running into bugs and crashes. We hear you. Updates to improve stability and performance already started rolling out over the weekend and another is [now live]. This is our top priority.

We’ve been thrilled to see so many of you enjoying your time in Kairos, and as a thank you, we also just dropped additional in-game rewards with the Break Free Pack, live now!

We value your feedback and are committed to delivering an incredible Borderlands 4 experience for all players.

Thank you!”

Patch Notes For Borderlands 4 Update – September 18th, 2025

Today’s Borderlands 4 update will improve PC performance and update the Gilded Glory Pack loot and rewards.

Gearbox has stated that more updates are on the way, singling out the plan to bring a Field of Vision slider to console players in the future. As previously stated, improving game performance is Gearbox’s top priority at this time.

Today’s update also includes changes to the Weekly Big Encore Boss, Weekly Wildcard Missions, and Maruice’s Black Market Vending Machine. More information on these weekly changes is available on the Borderlands 4 website.

Here’s the full list of patch notes as it pertains to performance and bug updates for PC players. There is currently no timetable for a console update, but I imagine it’s not far behind.

Stability

  • Addressed crashes tied to animation states, audio, and collision checks
  • Addressed various GPU-related crashes

Gameplay & Progression

  • Resolved an issue where the Reward Center could stop working after claiming the Gilded Glory Pack rewards
  • Addressed a progression blocker in the mission “Talk to Zadra,” where the objective could fail if players exited and relaunched mid-dialogue
  • Corrected “Doesn’t own DLC” warnings incorrectly showing up on non-DLC gear
    • This will be fixed on consoles in the coming days.

Loot & Items

  • Updated loot pools so Gilded Glory Pack guns no longer appear in standard chests

Despite the variety of issues, most people are generally happy with how the game has been playing thus far.

The biggest culprit, according to those complaining online, is the game’s optimization on PC. No matter how powerful a video card people claim they have, there is a host of issues plaguing their gameplay experience.
