Quick Links

Get ready to dive into sandy beaches, gorgeous sun, and ever-stronger monsters in the Ruan region of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. This is the continuation of the Prologue and Chapter 1 walkthrough.

Also, I believe this is where we’ll see the biggest boost to our BP, especially at Jenis Royal Academy. So make sure to complete all sub-events there before pushing the main quest forward.

As usual, just a reminder: this walkthrough will guide you chronologically through the story, warning you whenever there’s a missable collectible. Chest locations are listed below.

However, you’ll be responsible for checking the guild board at all times and completing subquests, which simply involves following the markers on the map.

With all that out of the way, let’s get on with Chapter 2’s walkthrough of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter.

Bose Market

Book – Liberl News Issue 4

As soon as Chapter 2 kicks off, head to the Bose Market and talk to the old bookseller lady at Grocery Minuet.

She’ll have Liberl News Issue 4 on sale. Too bad they didn’t get to interview our brave Bracers.

Now, cross the Krone checkpoint to reach the Ruan region. Then head on to Manoria Village.

Manoria Village

Recipes – Morning-Picked Herbal Tea / Stubborn Paella

When you get to Manoria Village, your destination will be the White Magnolia. Instead of talking to the NPC to move the story forward, open his shop to buy two new meals.

Gull Seaside Way

Bonus BP – Map Mystery

You won’t be able to accept this subquest until a bit later, after wrapping up the Investigation main quest. However, there’s a step to earn bonus BP before reaching Ruan.

Once a new character joins your party as a guest at Mercia Orphanage, your next stop will be Ruan. When you enter the sandy beaches for the first time, notice there’s a blue exclamation mark on the way.

Approach it, and you’ll find Jimmy surrounded by monsters, triggering a battle. Beat them and you’ll save Jimmy.

Later on, when you take the Map Mystery sub quest, the client will turn out to be Jimmy again. So, if you saved him before accepting his request, you’ll earn two bonus BP when you finish it.

Ruan

Recipe – Azelia Rosé

In Ruan, head to the Lavantar Casino and Bar, which allegedly is a casino (not yet), and buy the drink Azelia Rosé. They really are serving liquor to 16-year-old Bracers.

Joshua can learn a customized dish when preparing Azelia Rosé. Cassius, what on earth have you been teaching your son?

Recipes – Steamed Roe in Sake / Healthy Rice Porridge

When you visit the Guild in Ruan for the first time, the path to the South District will be open. Head over there and enter the Aqua Rossa Bar to find two new meals… with alcohol again.

Mercia Orphanage

Bonus BP – Orphanage Investigation

Correct Choice

Bonus BP

Someone started the fire?

+2

The thugs?!

+2

The first main quest in Chapter 2 is to investigate the orphanage after some trouble. After checking the clues, Joshua will ask you what you think caused the crime.

Pick the second option, that the fire was deliberate, to get two bonuses BP.

Then, you’ll head to Manoria Village to talk to Matron Theresa at the inn. After a long cutscene, you’ll leave the building automatically.

When Mary talks to you, another option will pop up. Choose “the thugs?!” to snag another two bonus BP. That wraps up the Orphanage Investigation.

Ruan

Book – Liberl News Issue 5

After investigating Mercia Orphanage, you’ll need to go to Manoria Village, then back to Ruan.

Once you’re in the city, before using the ferry to cross the river, stop by O’Neil Duty-Free Shop to buy Liberl News Issue 5.

Azure Tower

Recipe – Blazing Fried Chicken

When Kloe officially joins your party, a bunch of new subquests will pop up in the Guild. One of them, to recover an Orbal Gun, will take you to the entrance of Azure Tower.

Tip: You might’ve already completed this subquest, but I recommend waiting until you have a third-party member.

Since you’re close to the tower, go ahead and explore it. One of the chests on the fifth floor holds Blazing Fried Chicken. Eat it to learn the recipe.

If you’ve already got the ingredients, cook Blazing Fried Chicken with Estelle to learn the Cheesy Chicken Burger customized recipe.

Air-Letten

Bonus BP – Delicate Diplomacy

Correct Choice

Bonus BP

Your Grace, we have come for you.

+2

Either one

What?! In such a low-class place…?

Ah! By your feet, Your Excellency…

The Delicate Diplomacy subquest will take you to the Air-Letten checkpoint. Your mission is to convince a cocky royal member to leave his quarters.

Either way, the quest will be complete, but if you pick the correct answers listed above (except for the second one), you’ll net an extra 2 BP when you turn it in.

Recipe – Salt-Crusted Small Fish

Once the previous subquest is resolved, head back to Air-Letten and talk to Caesar, the shop owner. He’ll be selling the Salt-Crusted Small Fish meal.

Jenis Royal Academy

Recipe – Jenis Lunch

Halfway through Chapter 2, you’ll enter the Jenis Royal Academy arc. In the cafeteria, you’ll be able to buy a Jenis Lunch.

Bonus BP – A Festival Favor

After all the rehearsals and classes, you’ll finally regain control of Estelle. Your next main destination is the dean’s office, but if you open the map, you’ll notice three sub-events marked with a blue exclamation mark.

These are extra activities you can complete for bonus BP. They’re pretty straightforward, and everything will be marked on the map. But if you want a tip, start with Janitor Parkes, the sub-event near the main building.

Janitor Parkes will ask you to find three spots on campus missing flags. Just examine them, and you’re done, request complete and bonus BP in the bag.

Next, go to the Clubhouse’s second floor in the Material Archives room and talk to Logan. He’ll ask you to find Ruan’s Economic History book trilogy. Once again, markers will appear on the map, so just follow them.

Books – Ruan Economic History 1/2/3

I’m listing these books as collectibles. I’m pretty sure they count for the trophy, so better to be safe than sorry. Plus, you’ll want the bonus BP anyway.

  • One book is in the room next to Logan’s.
  • The second one is in the Faculty Lounge of the main building.
  • The third is in the Boy’s Dorm.

After collecting them all, return to Logan. You’ll hand the books over, but they’ll still be registered in your book collection interface.

Finally, for the last bonus task, approach the Old Schoolhouse at the far end of the Academy. A cutscene will play, and you’ll have to expel some monsters from the building.

The enemies are Lap Spiders and Mini Spiders. You can probably take them down with real-time battle, but since I was playing on Nightmare, I preferred raining havoc with fire-elemental Arts.

Once you defeat them all, the game will let you know. Before leaving the old building, make sure to pick up all the glowing items on the floor since the place will be locked once you leave.

They’re all U-Material, but better than nothing. Three bonus BP for you, spider slayer. You can now carry on with the main story.

Recipes – Crunchy Popcorn / Royal Crepe / Orange Ice Cream / Coffee Ice Cream / Rainbow Jelly Beans

Once the festival kicks off, treat yourself at the center of the park. There’ll be four new shops with snacks waiting for you. These are the last collectibles inside the academy.

Ruan

Book – Carnelia Vol. 5

After wrapping up the Jenis Royal Academy arc, a new main quest will trigger as you walk down the road. Instead of going straight to it, head back to Ruan and talk to Matilda, the girl on the bridge, to get Carnelia Vol. 5.

After that, there won’t be any more collectibles or subquests. Just follow the main story. The game will throw two new options along the way, but which one you choose doesn’t matter since neither has a bonus BP tied to it.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter – Chapter 2 Chest Locations

Here are screenshots of every chest found in the Ruan region. There are none at Jenis Royal Academy, by the way.

Krone Trail

When you reach the Ruan region, you’ll start on Krone Trail until reaching Manoria Byroad.

Manoria Byroad

This is the road that splits into Manoria Village and the Lighthouse.

Gull Seaside Way

Welcome to the beach! Gull Seaside Way has a few chests tucked away in the sand, so keep your eyes peeled.

Vista Forest Road

The forest that leads to Jenis Royal Academy.

Aina Causeway

You’ll have to cross Aina Causeway on your way to the Zeiss region.

Azure Tower

Azure Tower is completely optional, but worth exploring for its chests. Still, it’s the most annoying tower of them all, so make sure you’ve cleared every chest before leaving the Ruan region.

With that, you’ve wrapped up everything Chapter 2 has to offer in terms of missables and collectibles. Time to head over to the industrial City of Zeiss in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter: Chapter 3 Walkthrough.
