Throwing weapons in Dying Light: The Beast is a great way to rid yourself of handsy zombies, but the game has decided to just not tell you about it. Don’t worry, you can hurl any old axe or machete at the nearest undead, and it’s not that hard to do once you know how.
This guide will show you how to throw your weapon in Dying Light: The Beast.
How to throw weapons in Dying Light: The Beast
Confusingly enough, the keybinds in your settings will only mention the “weapon throw” option in the keyboard and mouse section, whereas the controller section doesn’t mention it at all. On top of that, the keyboard and mouse section only tells you to press the F-key, which isn’t enough to complete a throw.
To throw a weapon using a keyboard and mouse, you must charge your attack, then press the F-button. So, you click the left mouse button and hold it while aiming for a zombie (preferably the head), and press F before releasing the button.
To throw a weapon using a controller, charge your attack with RB (hold the attack trigger), aim at a zombie, then press the right stick.
If you’re looking to use throwables rather than throw your main weapon, such as grenades, molotov cocktails, and throwing knives, you must either click the mouse wheel on PC or press the LB button on a controller.
When to throw weapons in Dying Light: The Beast
Throwing weapons deals a fair bit of damage while staying out of zombies’ reach, so it’s quite useful! There’s no need to stick to old weapons, as throwing a weapon doesn’t break it. As soon as you’ve thrown it, you can run to the zombie, no matter if it’s alive (sort of) or dead for real, and loot the weapon from its body.
In other words, feel free to throw the same weapon several times. Just beware that its durability will diminish, similar to other types of attack in Dying Light: The Beast.
