It has just been revealed via their Steam page that the upcoming sequel to the popular indie dungeon-crawling RPG Moonlighter, titled Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, has had its early access release delayed by a month, from October 23 to November 19.
But what could make an indie game like this push back its release date, especially with indie gamers just now waning off their Silksong addiction?
The development team at Digital Sun Team and publisher 11 Bit Studios don’t cite development time or pressure, but instead the massive slate of releases that seems to be building up during this October; even if we may not have realized it, this month is getting quite stacked.
Is October 2025’s Most Crowded Month Yet?
According to their statement on their Steam page, “the month has filled up with so many other great releases that we feel it has become too crowded for us. And as every wise shopkeeper knows, even the most precious gem can be overlooked in an overstuffed showcase.”
Just looking at this month’s lineup, it’s hard to blame them. To start off the month, we have the release of much-anticipated titles like Ghost of Yotei on October 2nd, followed by one of this year’s most hyped multiplayer experiences, Battlefield 6, about a week later.
For RPG fans, Moonlighter 2 would initially be sandwiched between two massive upcoming sequels: Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 on the 21st, and The Outer Worlds 2 on the 29th.
At the very least, within the coming month, the team behind Moonlighter 2 are going to “plan to run Closed Playtests on Steam and via the Microsoft Store, allowing you to test some of the changes we have implemented in the game based on your feedback.”
If you’re still keen to see what the Moonlighter series has to offer, and are too excited to wait the now month-long delay they’ve put in place, the original title is priced at $1.99 for the next few days through Steam’s Autumn Sale.
Honestly, with how packed October seems to be for video games, it almost makes you wonder what mayhem there would be if GTA 6 had its original 2025 release date planned as well. At least these delays will make it a bit easier on our wallets.
