Activision Announces A 'Free Game' Gambit To Mess With Battlefield 6's Big Launch

We’re about to witness a new chapter in the biggest rivalry of the FPS universe with the arrival of Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which will be released a month apart from each other.

However, it looks like one of them has been keeping a trick up its sleeve all this time to try to steal its competitor’s thunder.

A Strategic Freebie That Might Steal The Spotlight From EA’s Biggest Shooter

In this week’s news on Activision’s official website, Call of Duty’s developer and publisher casually announced that they’re putting Black Ops 6, one of its best-selling titles ever, for free for a limited time: from October 9 to October 16.

Interestingly enough, this limited time happens to be only a single day before the full release of Battlefield 6, which will happen on October 10. “Play Black Ops 6 for free for an entire week, starting October 9 at 9AM PT and ending October 16 at 10AM PT”, says the announcement. Coincidence or not, many found the timing of the news suspicious, to say the least.

Players will be able to play the entire main campaign, all of its 40+ multiplayer maps, the acclaimed Zombies mode (excluding Ranked Play), and even the content of its upcoming Halloween-themed season (called “The Haunting”).

Everyone can participate in the Free Trial of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, since it will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Battlefield 6 is scheduled for October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is slated for November 14 on the same platforms.
