Pokemon Legends: Z-A Fans Unimpressed With Version Changes

A video demonstrating the differences between the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of Pokemon Legends: Z-A has made its way online, and fans aren’t impressed by the upgrades, especially as they’re paying for the privilege.

The Pokemon franchise has taken a ton of criticism during the Switch era, due to the shoddy performance and visuals in each mainline entry. The worst of these was Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, which launched in a dreadful state, requiring the horsepower of the Switch 2 to make it run in a decent state.

The next Pokemon game to come to the Switch is a cross-gen game, with Pokemon Legends: Z-A launching on the Switch 2 at the same time. Fans finally have had a glimpse of both versions in action, and the results are underwhelming, to say the least.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Isn’t Much Better On Switch 2

A video on the ElAnalistaDeBits YouTube channel has shown side-by-side footage of both versions of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The main difference is a performance boost, with the game running at 30fps on the Switch and 60fps on Switch 2, with some better lighting and draw distance on Nintendo’s latest system.

Fans are sharing their disdain with the differences between versions on the Gaming Reddit, especially as the Switch 2 version of the game requires a paid upgrade to access, unlike Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, which gave away its upgrade for free.

“The Switch 1 version looks like a cheap, asset flip, lazy game thrown together by amateurs where as the Switch 2 version looks like a cheap, asset flip, lazy game thrown together by amateurs with slightly better shadows and resolution,” one user wrote, while another said, “The biggest waste of money in gaming strikes again lmao.”

If the Switch 2 upgrade had been free, then the complaints wouldn’t be anywhere near as bad. The fact that Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are charging for a performance boost is extremely shady, and fans have every right to be disappointed.
