BALL X PIT: 10 Best Evolutions, Ranked

BALL X PIT: 10 Best Evolutions, Ranked
BALL X PIT: 10 Best Evolutions, Ranked

With the immense success of Megabonk, we have seen that Vampire Survivors was only the beginning for the bullet hell/heaven sub-genre, as the Vampire Survivor successors have been out in force, and Ball X Pit is the next big thing on the docket. I know, because it has completely absorbed every waking minute of my day.

I’ve spent an ungodly amount of time cooking run after run, trying new synergies and testing out all new characters as they move onto my end-of-days compound. But above all, I’ve been taking stock of the best evolutions.

These are the top-tier power-ups that players can attain by combining some fully upgraded basic upgrades that play nice with each other. But, critically, not all of them are created equal. So, here is our take on the best options you’ll have available to you if you play smart.

To clarify, all balls and evolutions have their place and can be situationally excellent. However, we are aiming to list the evolutions that are the most consistent, offer the highest DPS, and offer the best effects to exact crowd control. But, also, there will be a slight touch of personal bias.

10 Assassin

The Death Dealer

Combination(s)

Dark x Iron

Ghost x Iron

Description

Passes through the front of enemies but not the back. Backstabs for 30% bonus damage.

While not everyone will agree that Assassin is a top-tier option, I’m more than willing to fight its corner. I’ll concede that it works much better for certain characters than it does for others, with characters like The Shade, The Tactician, and The Embedded really getting the best out of this one. But, even still, it’s very consistent when you get it going.

This combo allows you to get behind the wall of enemies, but critically, it allows you to bounce when you reach the back, which means that you can double this up with certain passives to increase damage from behind and increase bounce speed to really stack that damage.

This, added with the caveat that not all your balls will get lost at the back, allows you to work the front and the pack of the pack, and can clear the field constantly if used effectively. So, if you consider yourself a prolific assassin, this evolution is your way of proving it.

9 Inferno

Relight My Fire

Combination(s)

Fire x Wind

Description

Applies one stack of burn every second to all enemies within a two-tile radius. Burn lasts six seconds, dealing 3-7 damage per stack per second.

If you’re looking to deal a great deal of damage, no matter what game you’re playing, really, fire tends to be a pretty solid way to go. That is very much the case in Ball X Pit, as Inferno is a rather unexciting but effective evolution that deals stacks of burn damage to anyone in the vicinity of the first victim.

The downside is that the 6-second effect time doesn’t give you a wealth of time to stack these burn effects, but the good news is that the effect is so potent that it tends not to matter.

Every time I have used this ball, the DPS has been solid, no matter what build it slotted into. Meaning it’s versatile, it’s clinical, and it’s easy to use as you don’t really need to alter the way you play, making it a solid option for any round you take on.

8 Blizzard

Chill Out

Combination(s)

Ice x Wind

Ice x Lightning

Description

Freezes all enemies within a 2-tile radius for 0.8 seconds, dealing 1-50 damage.

While Blizzard isn’t always an upgrade that deals insane DPS unless you really build into it with frozen damage-related trinkets and passives, it’s still one of my favorite evolutions, mainly due to its other functional use.

As mentioned, it deals reasonable damage. But the reason why you want to combine Ice and Lightning is that this ball will then create a rather large freeze AOE effect that will slow down a huge portion of the field.

This makes this an incredible evolution to take if you want to exact crowd control, and I’m of the opinion that if you can make it to any boss battle at the end of each stage, the round is all but won anyway. So, if you want to stop enemies from advancing in their droves, this is the evolution to take.

7 Spider Queen

A Friend Of Aragog

Combination(s)

Egg Sac x Brood Mother

Description

Has a 25% chance to birth an Egg Sac every time it hits an enemy

Provided you can get lots of balls on the field, Spider Queen will be a very good arachnid ally to have in your corner. This Evolution pairs excellently with passives that allow you to deal more damage with baby balls, as this queen shoots out multiple egg sacs at a time.

These sacs not only explode and multiply into baby balls, but they also deal decent damage on impact, meaning that this evolution is more than just a facilitator; it’s a damage dealer in its own right.

You do need to make sure you get this evolution leveled up quickly, as you need those egg sacs to be forming as often as possible, but as soon as you do, you’ll see the true power of this evolution as it tangles enemies in its wicked web.

6 Mosquito King

Can’t Swat The King

Combination(s)

Vampire x Brood Mother

Description

Spawns a Mosquito every time it hits an enemy. Mosquitos attack random targets, dealing 80-120 damage. If a Mosquito kills an enemy, you gain 1HP.

If you’re on the hunt for a suitable evolution for a healthy build, there are a few options, like Vampire Lord and Soul Snatcher. However, in my humble opinion, Mosquito King blows them all out of the water, provided you build around it carefully.

This is because you get 1HP for every kill, which means if the rest of your build is sound and you’re melting enemies, you’ll effectively be raking in so much health that you’ll be practically invulnerable.

Not to mention, unlike the other healing items, the Mosquito King also tends to deal a decent amount of damage into the bargain. The only downside is that the enemies it targets is completely random, but it’s a fine trade-off for the healing and damage you get with this evolution.

5 Phantom

Gonna Catch ‘Em All

Combination(s)

Dark x Ghost

Description

Curse enemies on hit. Cursed enemies are dealt 100-200 damage after five hits.

Ghost can be an incredible tool if you want to get around waves of enemies and send your ball through the crowd to do major damage. However, sending it through isn’t going to do much unless you can slap every enemy in the line of fire with a status effect.

This is exactly what Phantom does, allowing you to hit loads of enemies at once and curse every enemy without needing to worry about a percentage chance. Plus, if you double this up with the Voodoo Doll passive, you gain a huge chance of instant kills.

This evolution does rely on the player having a lot of baby balls in play, as you’ll need to hit each enemy five times to cash in each curse effect, but if you are popping out hundreds of baby balls, then this build will melt through lines of enemies with ease.

4 Magma

Too Hot To Handle

Combination(s)

Fire x Earthquake

Description

Emits Lava Blobs. Enemies that walk into these blobs are dealt 15-30 damage and gain one stack of burn (max 3). Burn last 3 seconds, dealing 3-8 damage per stack per second. Also deals 6-12 damage to nearby affected units.

If you’re looking for devastating damage, then look no further than the magma upgrade, the combination of Earthquake and Flame. This is essentially a fiery ball and that also deals AOE effect damage on impact, but there’s a little more to it than that.

You see, this ball also releases with magma blobs that float along the battlefield, dealing damage and leaving enemies in their wake.

It’s an effective crowd control ball for the waves of enemies that come, but it can equally belt through mini-boss and boss enemies when the time comes, making it a consistent, powerful, and reliable upgrade worth taking when the opportunity arises.

3 Sandstorm

Darude Intensifies

Combination(s)

Earthquake x Wind

Description

Goes through enemies and is surrounded by a sandstorm that deals 10-20 damage per second while also blinding enemies for 3 seconds.

If you’re looking for an evolution that acts as the whole package, much like Darude’s famous track, Sandstorm slaps.

This evolution deals consistent high DPS without the player needing to build into its gimmick, it passes through enemies, allowing you to target specific threats and get behind enemy lines, and it also inflicts blind on enemies as it goes.

Which means that, if you need to buff it a little more when the chips are down, passives like Silver Blindfold and Deadeye’s Amulet can prove deadly.

The sandstorm may rage, but you’ll be able to cut through the thick storm, and cut through enemy waves also.

2 Holy Laser

A Blessing From The Gods

Combination(s)

Laser (vertical) x Laser (Horizontal)

Description

Deals 24-36 damage to all enemies in the same row and column.

It’s pretty easy to see why Holy Laser ranks so high on this list, as its composite parts, Horizontal Laser, and Vertical Laser are incredible damage dealers. This is because you don’t need to aim these attacks at all.

These linear attacks always land, happen without you needing to be cognizant of them, and deal tremendous damage when powered up or fused. So, the evolution and combines horizontal and vertical is bound to have that X factor.

This combination practically decimates one line of enemies along each axis every few seconds, and does so without the need to line up your shot. Allowing you to focus on building into other aspects of your build. In short, it’s a mindless upgrade for a mindful player.

1 Sun

Praise The Sun

Combination(s)

Fire x Light

Description

Blind all enemies in view and add one stack of burn every second (max five stacks). Burn lasts 6 seconds and deals 6-12 damage per stack, per second.

As I mentioned, results may vary, and if you have a clear favorite you champion above all else, I apologize. But for me, there has been nothing that can quite compare to the consistency of Sun.

This combo of fire and light allows players not only to deal some of the most devastating DPS damage you can imagine, which often isn’t dependent on a specific build. It also allows the player to blind masses of enemies, allowing for more control when things get busy on screen.

Not to mention, if you take on Passive trinkets like Silver Blindfold, you can then increase damage to blinded enemies, which can be a certified gamebreaker when Sun is in effect. Double this up with Inferno, and you bet your bottom dollar you’re winning that round.
