Sinners in IMAX: The best horror movie of 2025 is back in theaters

Just in time for Halloween, one of the absolute best horror movies in a long time is returning to theaters, this time for an IMAX-exclusive engagement. Sinners, the Ryan Coogler-directed vampire film, is reportedly back in select IMAX theaters on Oct. 30, running for one week until Nov. 5. Variety was first to report about the film’s return after speaking with Coogler at a screening for the film. Polygon has reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation but has yet to hear back.

If you saw Sinners during its first run, you know how excellent an opportunity it is for one more viewing on the big screen. If your first viewing wasn’t in IMAX, though, you can rectify that because Sinners looks absolutely stunning on a massive IMAX screen. Given its original theatrical run was cut short as far as IMAX was concerned, with Disney’s Thunderbolts* taking over those screens two weeks after release, this might even be your first time having the option to see it in IMAX.

Then again, maybe you haven’t seen Sinners at all. In that case, it’s time to fix your life. There is no better time of year for a spooky movie, especially one that elevates the genre. Thankfully, Coogler has some experience with that, having done the same for fighting movies (Creed) and comic book movies (Black Panther). The end result is a thrilling but heartbreakingly horrific tale filled with blood, family trauma, lost love, vampires, and Michael B. Jordan playing dual starring roles as twins Smoke and Stack.

Speaking at a recent screening, Coogler reflected on casting Jordan and the glowing reception he received, saying, “We asked him to do this difficult thing technically, playing two different characters, but it also was a performance that we needed to have the backstory that we had before to pull this off. To see him recognized by his peers and other folks in the industry, I know that would mean a lot of him.”

Looking forward, it seems Sinners certainly gave Coogler the inspiration to continue working in the spooky space. He’s previously announced an X-Files reboot in the works. Speaking to Variety at the aforementioned Sinners screening, he explained what else is behind his choosing to reboot the beloved franchise.

“Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom,” he told Variety’s Marc Malkin. “My mom means the world to me — she’s actually here tonight — so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”

There’s no telling when Coogler’s take on The X-Files will see the light of day. At the very least, though, you all have one more chance to see his genuinely incredible Sinners when it returns to IMAX on Oct. 30.
