It’s the ultimate waifu simulator, and we hope that these guides can help you win over whoever takes your fancy:
-
Every Persona 5: Royal Confidant
-
The Chariot
Ryuji is your first friend, your most loyal friend, and the most emotionally charged character within the group. With a troubled past and a future destroyed by a problematic coach, Ryuji struggles with mental fortitude and resilience. Throughout your confidant run, you help him rediscover this resolve.
-
The Emperor
Emotion and letting their walls down is not Yasuke’s strong point. In fact, they borderline don’t quite understand human emotion as they tend to focus more on the outer layer, as beauty and aesthetics are their central focus. This confident run allows you to see Yasuke’s softer side as they try to understand that what’s inside is what counts.
-
The Fortune
It’s tough to get this confidant going, as you need 100,000 Yen for the privilege, but when you do get talking to Cihaya, you’ll come to learn that she has one of the most intense Confidant paths of all. You’ll need to rescue her from the cult that has her wrapped around their finger, and you just might make her question her faith in the bargain.
-
The Moon
Everyone needs a good social media manager, and Yuuki is one of the best in the biz. However, he’s a little too keen on the Phantom Thieves, to the point that he forgets that these ‘heroes’ are just normal people and classmates of his. Throughout this confidant, you help Yuuki find their own self-worth and explore the ups and downs of hero worship.
-
The Lovers
Alongside Ryuji, Ann makes up the emotional core of the early-game narrative, and this helps strengthen her confidant run, as you come to find that she is more than just a pretty face. She is a force to be reckoned with and a fierce, courageous character with more strength and resolve than you could have ever known.
-
The Tower
You don’t get many arcade rats anymore, mainly because the 80s have been and gone. But, in this fictional recreation of Shibuya, that’s exactly where you’ll find Shinya. He may look like a child without a care in the world beyond getting a new high score, but his confidence is surprisingly touching, and well worth following if you want to explore what it means to grow up.
-
The Death
Medical bills can be so expensive, but not when you go looking for a shady doctor who can do tests and treatments for you on the DL. Tae Takemi may not play by the rules, but she’s a gal with a moral code, and a gal that does no harm, but takes no prisoners. She might seem like she’s all bite, but she has a softer, more compassionate side, and this confidant run allows you to see that, alongside exploring some commentary on the state of modern medicine.
-
The Faith
Only available to those who strung for Persona 5: Royal, Yasumi’s exclusive confidant run allows you to get to know this aspiring gymnast beyond the round-offs and the flips. This confidant allows you to explore the tragedy of two sisters, themes of loss, and eventually, themes of self-discovery as she discovers a new lease of life.
-
The Hierophant
Sojiro is the father figure in your life that you either desperately want to please, or reluctantly tolerate as your foster guardian. However, no matter where your disposition lies with him, you’ll find that your bond will strengthen exponentially with him over time through a love earned through work, trust, and family ties.
-
The Hermit
You don’t need to play Cyberpunk 2077 to get close to a hacking genius. Futaba may be a little bit of an outsider, but if you follow her confidant arc, you’ll find out that there’s a traumatic reason why she keeps to herself and why she struggles to find true connections with others. Plus, you’ll come to find that she’s pretty funny despite it all. If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry, I guess.
-
The Strength
Double trouble, that’s the theme of this confidant run. Well, more specifically, it’s about duality and balance, but you get the picture. Fans will know that this confidant is very important as it unlocks some truly game-changing fusions, and also, a secret boss battle if you play your cards right.

-
The Judge
While Sae’s confidant run might be unmissable because the progression is tied to the story, it’s still a good idea to look ahead and see how this progression will affect your run. Plus, while it may be mandatory, it doesn’t make it any less important and gripping, as this is the confidant tied to the game’s almighty plot twist.
-
The Fool
You could call Igor the keeper of all the confidants, but really, Igor is just a facilitator who helps you, the protagonist, better understand yourself. Again, this confidant automatically grows and evolves as you progress, but equally, it has a rich narrative vein running through it.
-
The Hanged Man
Should you sell guns and weapons to literal kids? If you’re someone like Munehisa, you’ll see absolutely no issue with that. After all, cash is king. This guy may seem like a seedy dude, but as you get to know them better, you’ll find that they just made a few wrong turns trying to do their best for their family. We all have a past, perhaps one we aren’t proud of, and that is something epitomized and represented by Munehisa’s story.
-
The Devil
It’s apt that journalists and the media are represented by The Devil confidant, and that’s coming from a journalist right here. This confidant explores the themes of media coverage, the ethics of media, and corruption as this boots on the ground reporter tries to make an honest living in one of the most corrupt industries in the world.
-
The Sun
Speaking of corrupt professions, next we have the down-on-his-luck politician, Toranosuke Yoshida, who may not have much luck in the polls, but gets the vote of the Persona fanbase for their resolve and integrity, as they hold true to their ideals even as they struggle to find a platform to effect change. If there was ever a story about sticking with it and persevering, it’s this confidant path.
-
The Temperance
Sadayo Kawakami is a confidant who may be a little problematic if you pursue a romantic relationship with them, but undeniably, it’s a very worthwhile and interesting one to follow. By doing this, you’ll expose her double life, see the struggles of societal pressure in real time, as well as the dangers of burnout. Just try not to think too hard about the age gap or the teacher/pupil dynamic.

-
The Magician
I think we all go through a period where we don’t quite know who we are and what our role is on this earth. However, few of us have to live that existence quite as literally as Morgana. This confidant arc, which runs parallel with the core narrative, explores the themes of identity, belonging, and friendship. It eventually leads to the payoff and reveal of who Morgana really is.
-
The Star
If you have overbearing parents, you’ll likely resonate with Hifumi, a prodigy who is quiet, calculated, and reserved, more dependent on her parents’ advice than anything else. Following this confidant will allow you to learn Shogi and the pressures of competition and ruthless strategy. But also, about the importance of discipline.
-
The Councillor
Here we have another Royal exclusive confidant. The school counselor who allows you to delve into the deepest recesses of your psyche in one of the most philosophical and profound confidant arcs the game has to offer. This confidant also explores themes of proper practice within mental health spaces, and the role of the practitioner and the effects it can have on their own well-being.

The Justice
We all do our best to paint a perfect picture of ourselves to others, whether that be through social appearances or maybe even just a pristine IG grid. Goro is the human embodiment of that, as he tries to present himself as the perfect detective: cunning, calculated, and clever. But, following this confidant will reveal him for the flawed character that he is.

The Priestess
There’s always one kid in school that you just know is going to scoop the coveted valedictorian spot come graduation time, and that kid in Persona 5 is Makoto. Makoto’s story is one that is very much told on her terms, much like her reasoning to join the Phantom Thieves, and gradually leads to a story where she rebels against her destined path.
