After waking up in Seattle, brushing off the dust, and getting used to your awakened vampire self, you get the opportunity to choose your clan in Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2.

Every RPG player knows that this type of choice is never that simple, as some clans are stronger than others.

Each of the clans has its own set of skills that are useful in different parts of the game. Some are built more for subtlety, while others are meant to go on a rampage, destroying everything in their path.

So what is the best choice for your starting clan in Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2? Let’s break it down.

Tremere

Best Ranged/Crowd Control

The Tremere is the clan that uses blood magic to get by, and members of this clan are very powerful in Bloodlines 2. This is thanks to them getting some of the best abilities in the game, such as the Blood Cauldron and Cursed Blood combination.

Tremere get the passive abilities Corrosive Blood and Potency of Blood. Corrosive Blood makes enemies that you feed on disappear, preventing others from finding them. Potency of Blood grants you an additional random Blood Pip whenever you feed.

Potency of Blood is amazing for getting your abilities back faster, allowing you to use them more often. This is especially useful when combined with strong abilities like Shadow Step.

The main tactic with Tremere is to take out enemies from a distance. You can use Cauldron of Blood to paralyze a foe, then use the Cursed Blood ability on said enemy to make them instantly explode, damaging all enemies around them.

On top of this, the Tremere get the best ranged attack, Blood Salvo, which allows you to throw blood daggers. This is a very powerful ability that can take down enemies quickly from a distance.

Brujah

Best Melee Attackers

The Brujah clan is known for its strength, and this shows in Bloodlines 2, thanks to some great skills that are very powerful in close-up combat. For starters, the Brujah get the Brutality and Spark of Rage passives.

The Brutality passive grants you increased strength when you feed, while the Spark of Rage passive allows you to get the benefit of Brutality even when you don’t feed, but simply kill an enemy. This is extremely powerful, and killing enemies quickly will result in you always having that buff.

While the Taunt ability is questionable, all the other abilities the Brujah get are meant to wreck close-up enemies. For instance, Charge allows you to break through enemies, carry one off, and deal large amounts of damage.

Lightning Strike is also good, allowing you to quickly punch opponents multiple times without issue. Finally, Thundershock is a powerful slam for when you get surrounded. It is important to note that the Brujah are better in one-on-one fights, but they can handle a group just fine.

Lasombra

Best Stealth

If you want to go with a stealth build, you might want to choose Lasombra, as they produce some very stealthy vampires. For starters, your passives are Shadow Cloak and Stygian Shroud, making it so you are less likely to be spotted while feeding and so enemies can’t hurt you while you feed.

The Shadow Cloak passive works amazingly well with the Shadow Step ability that you get, because this ability allows you to teleport behind targets. Using this, you can quickly bite enemies without being seen.

In addition to this, the Glimpse of Oblivion ability that you get works both in and out of combat, making enemies flee while in combat, and NPCs flee while out of combat. This useful tool can help lure people away, while your passive abilities help prevent you from being noticed while you feed. This is great for blood resonance events.

The only thing I would change about the Lasombra is the Enter Oblivion ability. Switching this with the Unseen Aura ability from the Banu Haqim will increase the stealth of this clan even further, allowing you to easily feed in crowded places.

I will also note that the Banu Haqim clan is a great choice for stealth as well, but the passive isn’t as strong, and the abilities aren’t as useful as the Lasombra clan’s.
