Tormented Souls 2 is a terrifying experience, not only in the horrors you have to fight, but also in the puzzles you need to complete. Each puzzle you encounter in your playthrough is a head-scratcher, sometimes taking hours to figure out a solution.
One of the earlier puzzles that will most definitely be a roadblock for players is the symbol generator puzzle in the prison area. The main objective is to flick switches to point to the correct side, similar to the electrical board puzzle from the first game.
Don’t waste any more time trying to solve the symbol generator puzzle, and instead, use this guide. Read further to learn how to solve the prison generator puzzle in Tormented Souls 2.
The first section of this guide will explain how to figure out the solution, while the second section provides a quick answer to the puzzle. Feel free to skip to the second section if you want an answer immediately.
How to Solve the Prison Generator Puzzle in Tormented Souls 2
The main objective in the Prison area is to turn on the power so you can open the cells to collect important items and find a ladder leading down into the underground. However, turning on the power is no easy feat, and there’s a confusing puzzle that stands in your way.
The puzzle involves turning switches in the correct order and then pulling a nearby lever to turn on the power. If the switches are all turned the correct way, the power will turn on; if not, then nothing will happen when you pull the lever.
Luckily, just like other puzzles in Tormented Souls 2, there is a clue nearby that will help you discover the solution. To find this clue, head to the only already opened cell to find a piece of paper with pictures of a handful of shapes on it. The note is called “Symbol Paper.”
With the Symbol Paper note in hand, head over to the generator on the west side of the prison and begin the puzzle-solving process. It took me a long time to understand what the note was saying, but it’s essentially telling you that you need to turn the switches to symbols that can fit within the large picture on top of the note.
That’s where the green check and red X come into play. The green check mark lets you know that those types of shapes fit in the picture (bottom-left), while the shapes similar to the red X won’t fit (bottom-right).
Since you can’t actually move the symbols and try to fit them into the image, you have to imagine them being placed into the picture.
Prison Generator Puzzle Solution
As shown in the image attached, the solution to the prison generator puzzle in Tormented Souls 2 is Right, Left, Left, Left, Right. Make sure to start from the left and make your way to the right on the generator or else you won’t match the answer presented in this guide.
Each one of these symbols has a curve or triangle (or both) and can fit into the large picture on the note we discussed earlier. As mentioned earlier, you can’t actually rotate the symbols and try to place them in the picture, which can make this puzzle very tough to decipher.
Once you turn the switches to the correct symbol, return to the room with all the jail cells and interact with the lever on the platform in the center. If you turned all the switches correctly, all the cell lights will turn from red to green, and you will be able to open them.
I recommend searching all the cells for loot, as there are a couple that have nails for your weapon, and you can even find a note for lore purposes. However, the main reason you needed these cells open is to find the ladder in the east cell, which leads underground, an area you need to explore to progress further in the game.
