Halo “LAN Parties” and the Body of Christ: Some Assembly Required

Before the gaming world fully embraced online gaming, “LAN parties” were the way that we would came together to play titles like Halo with our fellow gamers. Some would bring gaming consoles and cables, others would lug heavy televisions and monitors, and a few would arrive with nothing more than their controller and a box of pizza to share… and as each player came together with whatever gift they possessed a beautiful, irreplaceable camaraderie was forged. In this shared experience strangers became friends, friends became family, and gamers became a true community that was united by the shared passion that they had in common.

In the body of Christ, we are all called to join together in one accord as often as possible for the purpose of building each other up with whatever gifts we’ve been given by the Lord… and not just in a weekly formal church setting. Our participation is not only an expectation, it is a prerequisite for unity… it is in our willingness to humbly serve each other as active members of this family that brings us together and dissolves all of the superficial walls that divide us. When we start feeling alone or disconnected, let’s prayerfully consider what gift we possess that edifies others and joyfully bring it to the party. To achieve true unity, some assembly is required.

Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:18b-21

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133:1
