A new patch for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been released, along with promises from the developers that future updates will fix some of the biggest issues fans have had with the game since launch.

A big portion of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 involves flashback sequences, where the player sees the life of Fabien, an undead detective who shares the protagonist’s mind. The Fabien sections are puzzle-based and are tied into an overarching mystery that is important to what’s happening in the modern day.

The problem with the Fabien sections is that once the game is completed, there’s nothing to be gained from replaying them. A new post on the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Steam page promises that second run-throughs may soon be Fabien-free.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has received a 1.0.2 patch, dubbed the “Halloween Update,” which adds new cosmetics to the game, along with some bug fixes. According to the game’s Steam page, the developers are looking into adding major updates in the future.

The developers are looking at adding new save game options, which will make it easier to see all of the endings, but more importantly, they’re looking at a custom difficulty option that will skip the Fabien sections on later playthroughs.

Naturally, players shouldn’t skip the Fabien bits on their first run, annoying as they are, as they’re important to understanding the story. Once they’re done, however, they become a major deterrent to doing another run, so it makes sense to add an option to skip them.

All Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 would need after that is a fast travel system and some of the game’s more pressing issues will be fixed. Whether people will still be around playing the game when these updates launch is another matter.
