Filming on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 3 ended this month, with the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah expected to hit theaters in 2026. If you’re looking to spend some time on Arrakis before then, or for a perfect gift for a fan of the sci-fi epic, you should check out the $78 complete three-book boxed set of Dune: The Graphic Novel released on Nov. 18.
The new collection from Abrams ComicArts features the full series from Brian Herbert (Frank Herbert’s son) and his frequent collaborator Kevin J. Anderson, which originally launched in 2020. The three books tell the full story of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel about Paul Atreides, who travels with his family to the desert planet of Arrakis and fulfills his destiny by waging war against the empire with the help of the Fremen.
“Frank Herbert’s Dune is my favorite science fiction novel of all time, and I’ve read it again and again, but when Brian Herbert and I adapted it into a graphic novel, we had to look at it in a whole new light,” Anderson tells Polygon via email. “So much of the story is cerebral and internal, but comics have to be visually interesting. Fortunately, the scope and the grandeur of the landscapes — whether the sands of Arrakis or the seas of Caladan or the industrial nightmare of Giedi Prime — offered a perfect canvas. We adapted Dune scene for scene, the way Frank Herbert told the story — why mess with a masterpiece? — and Abrams released it in three volumes, exactly the way the novel is divided.”
Abrams gave Polygon an exclusive first look at seven pages from Book 2: Muad’dib showing Paul establishing himself among the Fremen through a ritual duel with the warrior Jamis. The conflict is illustrated in bold colors by Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín, who have also worked together on Secret Weapons and Wonder Woman.
