Convenience or laziness?
A woman from Michigan tried to show her British husband that Americans aren’t lazy, but her plan completely backfired. Paige Wester, who now lives in the U.K. with her husband Alex Tagg, filmed their day running errands in the United States to prove that American car culture is really about making life easier, not about being lazy.

According to Daily Dot, her husband had been joking that Americans are stuck to their cars, never want to walk anywhere, and are basically the laziest people in the world. Wester didn’t agree with him and wanted to show on her TikTok video that Americans just like doing things quickly and easily.
But things went in the opposite direction. The couple spent their whole day going from one drive-thru to another without getting out of the car even once. They went to the bank, picked up McDonald’s, dropped off clothes at Goodwill, got coffee from Dunkin’, and returned books to the library. When they got to Goodwill, someone was supposed to come to the car and take their donation bags. “My husband was so mortified, he literally went to the trunk and grabbed them to give to the man,” Wester said in her video.
The internet had a lot to say about this
At the Dunkin’ drive-thru, she mentioned that almost every coffee shop in America has a drive-thru option. She also pointed out they could have gone through a pharmacy drive-thru if they needed medicine.
The TikTok video got more than 1.8 million views and started a big conversation about how Americans live. A lot of people from other countries left comments saying the American lifestyle looked sad and lonely.
“They can do drive thru banks but not online banking? Worst of both worlds,” one person commented. “I hate drive thru ..love to park walk and meet people sit outside with coffee people watching, America is like a bad dream,” another said.
Wester had tried to defend the American way by saying she’s a mom who doesn’t have time to sit in coffee shops and chat like people do in England. But her video ended up doing the opposite. The video is just the latest example of unusual American drive-thru behavior going viral, though this time people were talking about the whole culture instead of just weird orders.
Even though she started out trying to prove her husband wrong about Americans being lazy, the video made his point look pretty accurate. The whole thing joins other recent stories about bizarre restaurant encounters that got attention online, and now people are talking about whether all this convenience is making Americans more isolated and lonely.
