A Beginner's Guide To MARVEL Cosmic Invasion

With MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, developer Tribute Games has created a fantastic beat ’em up that’s loaded with action, suspense and all the thrills of the comics that inspired it.

That being said, if you’re new to beat ’em ups or the Marvel universe, there may be a learning curve for you. Beat ’em ups tend to have a reputation for starting out easy, then picking a spot to escalate the challenge and going full steam ahead.

10 Best Video Games Based On Comics That Aren’t Marvel Or DC

Marvel and DC may rule the roost, but the big two aren’t a factor in this list.

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is no different. It has some pretty intense boss battles and enemy waves, all of which can be overwhelming to a newcomer.

So, if you’re new to the genre, to Marvel, or just want some help, stick around. I’ll run down some brief tips and tricks for you, so that way you’ll be able to stop Annihilus and save the universe like a true superhero.

Use The Block Button Wisely

As you engage in combat, you may notice that some enemies can be stun-locked rather easily. Some of them, however, are not going to just let you pummel them with no reprisal.

You can block and mitigate the damage, but the best way to use the block is as a parry button. This will elevate your block from a defensive move into something that allows you to punish the enemy.

If you time it right before the enemy strikes you, you’ll get a flashy animation, and they’ll be stunned. This is crucial to surviving some boss battles as well.

Using the block is paramount to making sure you don’t get overwhelmed in the enemy waves. Feel free to practice it as much as you need.

Unlock The Hidden Characters When You Can

Although the game does present its level selection in a somewhat linear manner, there are a few times when the path branches.

During some of these moments, it’s crucial to go for a level that has an unlockable character. Not only do you have to do these levels anyway, but the unlockable characters are some of the best in the game.

The levels Blue Area of the Moon, Destromundo, Hala, and Fort Galactus all contain unlockable characters. I would very much recommend hitting them as soon as they become available, as those characters are all outstanding.

Be Patient In Large Waves

It may not seem like much in the beginning, but MARVEL Cosmic Invasion amps up the level of enemies in a wave pretty substantially in some parts. It can certainly feel a bit overwhelming if you haven’t played a game like this before.

It’s important to stay calm in these situations. Remember, you’re a superhero, after all. You’ve got superpowers, so use them.

Basic attacks will build up a blue meter underneath the health bar, and when it’s reached a certain point, you can unleash a special attack with the right bumper.

These are often highly damaging, screen-clearing moves that will greatly assist you in those hectic scenarios.

Pick A Complimentary Duo

If you’re going into battle, it’s important to remember that certain heroes compliment each other. After all, having two brawlers on your team doesn’t make much sense, as you’ll be facing a variety of enemies that require different strategies.

It’s pretty important to have a flying character of some kind. Someone like Iron Man, Phoenix or Silver Surfer are great. Pairing them up with another flying character can be good, but it’s important to diversify.

Flying characters work well with brawlers, so Iron Man and She-Hulk are a great team. Conversely, ranged fighters like Captain America pair up great with a brawler like She-Hulk.

No matter what pair you pick, remember that different power sets will give you a huge advantage. You’ll want as many different power combinations in a duo as you can get.
