You may have entered a location in the Great Hollow and discovered that your health has mysteriously been cut in half. Not sure what to do, you run for the nearest Site of Grace, and it is magically restored, but what is this mysterious curse?
Let’s break down everything you need to know about the Crystal Curse in Elden Ring Nightreign, and how you can break free from it.
What is the Crystal Curse?
The Crystal Curse is a mysterious phenomenon that affects you in select locations around the Great Hollow Shifting Earth event. When you enter either of the large fortress areas in the northwest or southeast, you will be affected by this curse.
While affected by the Crystal Curse, your health will be cut in half. Think of this as being similar to turning Hollow in the Dark Souls titles. This effect will persist until you return to a Site of Grace or your character dies.
Once you have either reached a Site of Grace or died, the curse will disappear, and your health will return to normal. When you enter the area again, however, you will once again be afflicted with the Crystal Curse.

How to Break the Crystal Curse
Across the Great Hollow Shifting Earth event map, you can find various glowing crystals. These crystals match the color of the massive purple one in the center of the map.
When you walk up to one of these crystals, you will see a prompt that says resonate. Interact with the crystal by resonating with it to shatter it.
Each time one of these crystals breaks, you will get a notification that states that the great crystal has cracked. Resonating with four of these crystals will shatter the great crystal in the center of the map.
It is important to note that the smaller crystals will not appear on your map during the first day. At this time, you will need to discover them on your own. After you have defeated the first Night Boss, the crystals will be marked on your map.
Crystals you have already resonated with will appear grey on your map. Untouched crystals will appear purple on your map, showing that they have not been resonated with.
There will be around six crystals around the map during a run. You only need to interact with four of these crystals to shatter the great crystal in the center.
Once you have shattered the great crystal, you will be notified, and the crystal will change shape on the map. You and your teammates can now run to the great crystal in the center of the map to find a glowing aura.
Interact with this aura as you would during any of the other Shifting Earth events, and you will receive the Favor of the Great Hollow. The Favor of the Great Hollow breaks the Crystal Curse, and it also boosts your art guard when you have exhausted all of your Sacred Flasks.
After receiving the Favor of the Great Hollow, you will be able to enter any of the large fortresses on the map without being afflicted by the curse and having your health cut.
