Originally announced in 2021, REPLACED will be Sad Cat Studio’s first game, and they’ve been taking their time to ensure the highest quality possible.
The game was delayed in 2023, because the devs wanted to “make sure every aspect of it is the best it can be” and they’ve just announced they’ve set the release date for March 12th, 2026.

In a time when artificial intelligence encroaches on human creativity and changes the video game industry as we know it, this indie platformer stands tall with hand-painted animations enhanced with modern effects.
Ironically enough, in REPLACED you’ll play as an AI trapped in a human body, fighting your way through a dystopian cyberpunk world trying to expose the secrets of the Phoenix Corporation—the ones who created you.
Using a combination of 3D object movement, 2D animation, and camera angles, the Sad Cat team has created an incredibly unique and immersive 2.5D experience, and a lot of it was made by hand.
According to the developers, “The main character in REPLACED has more than 500 meticulously hand-painted animations made just for platforming.”
It’s not just eye-candy though, the sound design has the gaming community buzzing, as it’s synth-driven, moody tones compliment the dark, dystopian visuals perfectly.
As seen in the 13-minute gameplay overview posted in 2024, the Sad Cat team has also put a big focus on creating seemless transitions between gameplay and cinematics to enhance the level of immersion.
REPLACED is officially set to release for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG), Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass on March 12th, 2026.
