Following all the various leaks, rumours and reports, a new Tomb Raider game was indeed announced and shown off at The Game Awards. It’s scheduled for release in 2027.
We didn’t see much in the trailer, but it seems to confirm most of the leaks, and given that a remake of the first game was also announced, it seems like they are indeed looking to bridge the gap between the original games and this new adventure. It was not confirmed whether the newer “Survivor” trilogy is considered canon.
Lara is going to race against a group of treasure hunters to uncover the secrets revealed by a massive natural disaster
“Tomb Raider: Catalyst, developed by Crystal Dynamics, marks a bold new direction for the series as Lara Croft embarks on a new adventure across Northern India. Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them. When the most notorious treasure hunters from around the world descend on the region, Lara races to uncover the truth buried beneath the fractured landscape and stop those who would use its power for their own gain. As the ancient world collides with the present, Lara must decide who to trust among rivals and allies to prevent a catastrophe and protect a secret that could reshape the future.”
Alix Wilton Regan will step into the role of Lara Croft for both this and the “reimagining” of the very first Tomb Raider game.
