The wait for Deltarune Chapter 5 might not be as long as people feared, as creator Toby Fox has said that he believes the release is only a few months away.
Deltarune has had some lengthy waits between chapters, with Chapter 1 launching in 2018, Chapter 2 in 2021, and Chapters 3 & 4 together in 2025. The ending of Chapter 4 confirmed that Chapter 5 would launch in 2026, but fans thought this might be wishful thinking, considering the delays that had plagued the series.
Deltarune Chapter 5 Will Not Come Out This Year
Don’t expect to play it anytime soon.
Fox had previously suggested that Deltarune Chapter 5 would be a late 2026 release, but he has now changed his mind. In the Winter 2025 Undertale/Deltarune newsletter, he said progress is moving swiftly and that the game could arrive soon.
Deltarune Chapter 5 Could Launch In A Few Months
After giving a breakdown of the progress made in Deltarune Chapter 5, Fox said that the latest installment is nearly complete and could be released soon.
“If I had to give a realistic estimate, I believe that it will take several months to release the game from where we are now. It feels crazy to say this even though only 6 months ago you guys only had Chapters 1 and 2, but in a few months, much of the team will probably already be focusing their attention on Chapter 6…”
Naturally, this is only an estimate, and countless issues can crop up during video game development that could delay a game. The bug-fixing and localization stages could cause all kinds of problems, pushing the game back to the end of 2026.
Hopefully, Fox and his team have all of their ducks in a row, and that Deltarune Chapter 5 will arrive soon. For many, it’s their most anticipated game of 2026, and may pay off nearly a decade of waiting.
