EA’s new Skate game is a divisive reboot for the series, launching as an early-access free-to-play live-service game with a whole new vibe. I had rather mixed feelings about it. But it appears to have been a hit.

Alinea Analytics discussed the game in their latest newsletter, revealing that Skate has apparently managed to capture 23+ million players in 2025.

That’s a decent ollie up from October, when EA announced the game had surpassed 15 million players. At the time, Alinea said that those players had generated around $3 million in revenue.

What’s more, Alinea is also claiming that Skate is still bringing in 750k+ daily active users. Presumably, the vast majority of those are on console because the Steam numbers are quite soft right now – about 5-10k peak concurrent players per day.

It’s still difficult to say if the game has a future or not. Updates have been rocky thus far, although the Steam reviews have been trending upwards lately, so perhaps things are getting better. As a skateboarding title, it occupies a unique space in the free-to-play market, giving it an edge. Personally, having a title be in early access while also having heaps of microtransactions and season passes irks me, but that’s my problem. And I’d like to see it succeed. I would much rather a proper Skate 4, but if this is all I can get, then I’d like to see it continue into the future.
