How to Defeat Atziri in Path of Exile 2

I’m sure you’ve all seen her by now, plastered over the front of Path of Exile II: Atziri, the lady in red, Queen of corruption, Pinnacle Boss supreme! But how many of you have actually faced her?

In all honesty, while the fight can be a little tricky, the real challenge here is simply getting to Atziri. Not only do you have to build a massive dungeon, relying on pathing pieces that don’t come around all that often, but also, if you fail, a bunch of those pieces become destabilised, forcing you to build it all over again to get a second chance.

Path of Exile 2: Fate of the Vaal League Mechanic Guide

A custom dungeon, just for you!

Love it or hate it, I’m sorry to say, but the dungeon-building mechanic is here to stay. So let’s learn how to make the most of it, and get ready for when you finally reach Atziri herself!

How to Reach Atziri

Royal Access Chamber

Getting to Atziri can be a pain. But once you understand how the temple actually works, it becomes a lot quicker.

First, you’ll need to take down the Architect, who can be found on a random tile on the Dungeon map. Once you reach this boss and eliminate him, you can subsequently access the console in his room and add the Royal Access Chamber to a far spot on the map.

Next time you gain access to the temple, you can start building paths over to the Temple Access. Just be careful not to place a tile that doesn’t connect. I’ve done it more times than I can count, and I keep making the same mistake.

Mapping Tips

Once you reach the mapping stage of the game, it’s easier simply to run Tier 1 Waystones to gain Temple charges. Beat the boss first, and then search for the Vaal beacon. You can easily beat a map in a couple of minutes this way, blasting through easy enemies and leaving as soon as you’ve achieved these 2 objectives.

Path of Exile II: How To Create Effective Map Nodes

For anyone struggling with Endgame Mapping in Path of Exile II, this guide will highlight the best ways to make the most out of the experience.

You can also use Medallions that you find to increase the amount of beacon charges you can hold. You can store a total of 60 charges this way, meaning you can do a bunch of temple runs all at once if you wish.

These Medallions are also pretty useful for re-rolling tiles you don’t want to use, as well as adding extra modifiers to the Map to increase your overall rewards.

Fight Preparation

Before you even consider challenging Atziri, it makes sense to be as prepared as possible. Remember, if you die, it’s going to be a while before you can challenge her again!

I would recommend that you get all of your Ascendancy points and max out your elemental resistances. Atziri has a lot of lightning and fire attacks, so at the very least, get these as high as you can.

In addition, you should get your character’s defences as high as possible. Whether this is Armour, Evasion or Energy Shield, or even a mix to be on the safe side. You should be moving a lot during the course of the fight, too, so boots that have over 30% movement speed are good here.

Remember, every room that you’re placed in gives map modifiers to every enemy within the temple. If you place too many rooms and use too many medallions, Atziri is going to be massively buffed.

Atziri, The Red Queen

Once you’ve sorted out the Access Chamber, head back to Atziri’s room on the map. Go on past the chests and in through the main door with . If you haven’t completed all the rooms in the temple yet, you have a chance even after killing Atziri.

Here are the moves that she uses in her first stage:

Attack Name

Description

How To Avoid

Basic Melee Attacks

Atrziri has a few basic melee attacks she will use, which vary from pokes with her spear to large sweeping arcs.

It’s best to fight her from a distance if possible. Many attacks can be avoided simply by fighting at the edge of her chamber.

Flame Ring

She will sweep her staff around, causing a large ring around her to burst into flames.

You can be inside or outside the ring here, just don’t step on the fire.

Fire Blast

Atziri will grip her staff as a large circle of fire spawns upon the ground. The flame rushes towards the centre before erupting.

As soon as the circle spawns on the ground, roll away.

Fire Rune

She will cast a ball of flame onto the ground, which spawns a rune, exploding into flame.

This has a very small area of effect, so by the time you see it, you’ll already be far from Atziri.

Lightning Rune

Similarly to the previous attack, but with lightning instead of fire.

Dodge this in the same way. Just keep moving.

Thunder Sweep

Atziri sweeps her spear around her, stepping forward and flinging an arc of lightning runes. These runes explode after a second of being on the floor.

Either roll towards her or dodge backwards to avoid the electric blasts.

Bolt Storm

Atziri will call down lightning bolts from above, which land randomly on the surrounding ground.

Look for the blue indicators that show where the bolt will land and weave a path between them.

Blood Orb

Similar to the rune attacks, Atziri throws a ball of blood to the ground, which explodes, dealing physical damage.

Roll away from the blood, same as the runes.

Circle of Blood

A blood-soaked spear will land on the ground and send out a huge amount of densely packed orbs in a circle.

You can either run away from the orbs until you see a gap through which to run, or simply time a roll right beneath them.

As soon as you defeat her first form, getting her health down to around 10%, Atziri will escape through the Mirror portal to the next chamber. Follow her through and get ready for a far trickier fight.

Atziri, The Fell Serpent

Atziri will begin to commune with the Beast, and it will transform her into a large flesh-snake creature, beginning her 2nd phase. This section is a lot more hectic compared to the previous, with large AoE attacks that can deplete your health bar ridiculously fast. Keeping your distance is still key here.

While Atziri does have some new attacks, many of them are simply upgraded versions of the previous ones from phase 1:

  • Circle of Blood II: Now you’ll have to deal with multiple rounds of blood orbs appearing at the same time, often overlapping with one another.
  • Bolt Storm II: The bolts of lightning will now appear red.
  • Flame Ring II: All the area outside the ring is now covered in flames, forcing you towards Atziri.
  • Fire Blast II: This attack is similar to the previous; however, now there are 2 overlapping blasts imbued with Vaal Energy

Be aware that Atziri is far more mobile in this form. While using her basic Melee attacks, she can now dash towards you, as well as cast the Circle of Blood spell at the end of her normal attacks. In terms of new attacks, we have:

Attack Name

Description

How To Avoid

Leap Slam

Atziri will disappear into the air before slamming down into the ground.

Watch for the red circular indicator. This is where Atziri will reappear. You have a short amount of time before she slams down, dealing a large chunk of damage.

Crimson Valley

Atziri will fill the arena with red lightning, save for a small strip down the centre.

As you see the arena start to fill, roll back towards the centre as quickly as possible. The strip is quite thin, so if you’re in animal form, try turning back into a human.

Spreading Corruption

This could be seen as Atziri’s ultimate attack. At around 20% of her health, she will coil into a writhing ball while red corruption grows in a large circle around her, spreading towards the edges of the arena. This deals heavy damage if you stand within it.

Try and deal as much damage to her from a distance as you can to stop this attack. If you are melee, head to the far west of the arena, and there’s a small spot where the corruption can’t reach you.

After this attack, Atiziri will teleport back to the beast and become absorbed by it. Here, she will drop a Medallion, and you can head back through the Mirror.

Rewards

Once you head back to the rewards chamber, you can use the Medallion to open the large chest in the centre. Here you can grab one of the following special Uniques:

  • Atziri’s Splendour
  • Atziri’s Rule Staff
  • Atziri’s Contempt Spear
  • Drillneck Quiver
  • Flesh Crucible Diamond

In addition, the smaller chests contain a bunch of useful currency used for advanced gear crafting. If you aren’t sure how these special corrupting tools are best used, consider selling them via the currency exchange for a healthy profit.
