How do you join other players in Hytale multiplayer? Survival games are nothing without the support of a burgeoning community of players working together towards a common goal, which is why it’s so important to play Hytale with other people. After all, if you’re out in the wilderness trying to find precious materials, someone needs to be at the base constructing useful buildings.
First things first, yes, Hytale is in fact a multiplayer game. We aren’t quite sure where the rumor started that you could only play the game on your own, but that would be incredibly disappointing, even for an early access title. Join us as we highlight all the ways you can join your friends in Hytale, including via a public server and steps on setting up a private server.
How to play Hytale with friends
When you boot up Hytale for the first time, the “Worlds” tab will be empty until you create your own world. The same thing applies to the “Servers” tab, with the game prompting you to add a server using the large blue button in the bottom right corner. Hytale doesn’t feature a public server browser, so if you want to play with random players, you’re going to need to find a public server.
Hytale public servers
There are plenty of websites out there like Hytale Online Servers where you can find servers with active players, but as is the case with joining public servers, you will have to play with strangers.
Each server comes with its own set of rules that players must adhere to, and there are limits to how many players can join a server. Some servers offer protected slots for paying customers, so that is something you may want to look out for before joining an extremely popular server.
Hytale private servers
If you only want to play with your friends, you have two options: send your friends a code that is only active while you’re currently in the game or set up a private server. The “Join via Code” option is what most people will be using, so we’ll run through the process for that.
An important point to note is that these types of private servers are only active when the player hosting is currently in the game. You won’t be able to play in their world unless they’re online. To play together in a persistent world, one of you will need to set up a dedicated Hytale server.
Here’s how you host a private Hytale server:
- Go into your Hytale world.
- On the pause screen, enable online play.
- Copy your share code to your clipboard.
- Share your code with your friends.
Once you’ve decided who among your friends will be the host of the server, in this case we’re assuming that person is you, you must launch into your existing world (or create a new one). Once you’re in, hit the “Escape” key and select “Online Play”, then enable “Allow other players to join” at the top of the screen.
With that enabled, you can now password protect your server, and you also have the option to include the password in your share code. This will save your friends time as they won’t have to remember what the password to the server is, but it does make your server slightly less secure. Anyone using your share code with the password included can enter your server at will, whereas the password will stop them from joining unless you’ve supplied them with the password.
You may experience problems after copying your share code to your clipboard depending on your router’s security settings. This will be evident right away by your NAT type; if it displays as Standard, you shouldn’t have any difficulties. The Hytale website details all the ways you can troubleshoot your NAT type if your router isn’t set up correctly.
Send your share code to your friends, and they will be able to play alongside you in your world. If you’ve been given a share code, or your friends aren’t sure what to do with yours, just follow these steps.
Here’s how you join a private Hytale server:
- From the Hytale main menu, click the “Worlds” button.
- At the top of the screen, hit the “Servers” tab.
- In the bottom right corner, tap “Join via Code”.
- Paste your friend’s share code into the box and press the “Join” button.
That should allow you to connect to your friend’s server. If you want your mates to join your world, you can repeat the same steps and send them your share code, giving them access to your world.
And that’s all you need to play Hytale multiplayer with your friends.
