In an interview for 4Gamer, Capcom’s Koshi Nakanishi, who is the director of Resident Evil Requiem, discussed topics like the synergy between infected enemies and their unique personalities. This went over how they might behave differently as a result ahead of the game’s February 2026 debut. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
In Resident Evil Requiem, the infected enemies retain some aspect of their personalities from when they were alive. This concept comes from the Nakanishi and the development team’s idea that it would be fun if each individual infected had their own idiosyncrasies. Players already know how infected enemies behave. However, the director noted this new way of designing enemies will keep players on their toes with unexpected behavior, as well as leave room to imagine who they were before.
The enemies can also affect each other with their actions. The team calls this “synergy,” and Nakanishi noted it’s something they actually had to scale back a little during development since things were getting out of hand. With so many enemies reacting to each other, some unexpected results can occur. As the line between fear and humor is so thin, the development team had to be careful when adjusting things like animations so that something that was supposed to scare the players doesn’t cause them to laugh instead.
Resident Evil Requiem will come out on February 27, 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows PC.
