Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was a pretty solid release for Sega in 2025. Certainly the fans seemed chuffed about it, and the critic reviews were good, too. Indeed, Sega’s latest financial results are quick to praise the game’s Steam user rating and its Metacritic score. But it turns out, they aren’t quite so happy with the sales numbers.
The document confirms what we heard at the end of 2025: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has sold 1-million+ copies. Not too shabby, but not enough by Sonic standards it seems.
Apparently, this performance “did not meet our expectations,”. But Sega does internally plan for the game to sell another million copies across the next year, bringing the total to 2 million.
“We aim to sustain long-term sales by encouraging players to enjoy the game over time through the continued support of the title including ongoing release of additional downloadable content.”
So there’s hope then. It doesn’t seem like Sega is just abandoning the game despite their disappointment with its sales. A million units at this point is a little weak by Sonic standards, but it has the potential to a game that just keeps quietly shifting copies in the background.
