In today’s digital landscape, we’re drowning in AI-generated slop across most online gaming storefronts. This makes it increasingly difficult to discover indie titles that are actually proper games—games made with passion, care, and genuine creativity, not cynical cash grabs designed to scam or mislead players.
Cute And Provocative, Just The Way We Like It.
Maiden Cops practically screams “buy me”, yet I never even noticed it on the PlayStation Store—lost in a sea of low-effort shovelware clogging up the storefront.
Luckily for me, I received a review key from Eastasiasoft last week, because otherwise I probably would’ve missed out on this game entirely. And that would’ve been a real shame.
Flashy store icons used to work back in the day, but in today’s overcrowded digital stores, it honestly feels like a game could hand you ten bucks and still go unnoticed.
The Sexy Maiden Cop Trio Likes To Both Fight And Uhm Get Wet…
The presentation in Maiden Cops is undeniably strong, with lush, colourful graphics throughout. There are even story clips sprinkled in, though I’ll admit I can’t say I paid much attention to them—most likely because I was a bit too distracted by, umm… the bouncy stuff.
Jokes aside, the Anime/Manga-inspired style works remarkably well. While it does make me feel slightly uncomfortable at times, it also makes me genuinely happy—happy because the game dares to do something we rarely, if ever, see in this genre. It takes a risk, commits to it fully, and in doing so gives the game a personality that really stands out from the crowd.
The Maiden Cop Squad…
The maiden cops consist of a trio of characters, each with their own distinct move set, fighting style, and powerful special attacks. The characters are varied enough that you’ll easily want to beat the game at least three times—if not more—without ever getting tired of it. In total, there are seven levels, each featuring multiple sub-levels along the way.
Maiden Cops offers two main modes of play.
Classic Mode allows the use of modifiers and cheats, making it perfect for casual play or just having fun with the game’s systems.
Arcade Mode strips everything back to pure skill—no cheats, no mods, and brutally hard. This is the real deal, complete with an online leaderboard for those who want to prove they’ve truly mastered the game.
Think Final Fight / Turtles In Time Retro Type Beat ‘Em Up Game…
There are quite a few things I really like about this game, but perhaps the strongest impression is how instantly authentic it feels. Within seconds, I was struck by just how “late-80s arcade machine” real the whole experience comes across.
The in-game visuals look exactly like something straight out of the 16-bit era—only this time done right. This isn’t a game lazily made to look like some deliberately ugly 4-bit relic; it’s clearly built with care, skill, and respect for the hardware and aesthetics of the time it’s inspired by.
The music is another spot-on choice. It fits the action perfectly, and at no point while playing Maiden Cops did I ever stop to think this was a modern beat ’em up released in 2025. It genuinely feels like something pulled straight from the golden age of arcades.
The More Retro Beat ‘Em Ups We Get, The Better, Atleast When They Are This Good Looking…
Maiden Cops is a fantastic attempt at creating a retro beat ’em up for today’s consoles. It genuinely looks like a game that could have landed on the Amiga, SNES, or in the arcades back in the day, thanks to its pixel-perfect visuals and music that aches to be proper chiptunes in the very best 80s/90s style.
The levels are exactly what you’d expect—and that’s meant as a compliment. Streets, bars, beaches, bridges, construction sites… It’s all here, and all crafted in a way that fools the player into thinking this is a long-lost classic from the past. Heck, at times it even feels like Capcom’s Final Fight, both in terms of character differences and overall level design.
The Verdict…
An absolutely wonderful game—albeit a bit, umm… strange at first. The Anime/Manga style can feel slightly corny, but honestly, the humour and sheer craziness will have you laughing out loud more than once.
The presentation is top-tier: sound, graphics, options, cheats—everything feels crafted with real skill and genuine passion.
This is a top-class game. It’s cheap (£15.99), yet feels like it could easily have been sold for double the price. If you’re into old-school brawler beat ’em ups in the vein of Double Dragon, Golden Axe, and Final Fight, look no further—this is a proper winner. It fits perfectly alongside modern brawlers like Double Dragon Revive, Takedown, and that Final Vendetta game.
