It seems that Konami fans are being remarkably well-served during Sony’s State of Play this Thursday! That’s because, after the shocking announcement of a brand-new Castlevania, the event also delivered major updates for the Silent Hill franchise.
And another highlight was a brand-new and haunting trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall, this year’s entry in the iconic psychological horror series.

According to the newest trailer and information, Silent Hill: Townfall is a standalone, full-length psychological horror experience developed by Screen Burn and co-published by Annapurna Interactive (yes, the iconic indie publisher) and Konami.

Moving away from the traditional American fog, this entry is set in the cold, isolated landscape of Scotland on the island of St. Amelia. Following its mysterious 2022 teaser, this full trailer finally gives us a full, detailed look at the atmosphere and the new nightmare that awaits!

In this chapter, players assume the role of Simon Ordell, a man called back to St. Amelia to “set things right,” according to its synopsis. He arrives to find a silent town swallowed by a thick mist (sounds familiar?), which is seemingly abandoned, but far from peaceful—and it seems Simon will find that out the hard way.
The most interesting detail is that he must follow voices captured by a handheld analog TV he found along the way, which guides him through the town. It’s a nice, unique twist to the story that adds a whole new layer of “analog horror” to the franchise.

It also has some Silent Hill 2 vibes, since the protagonist will uncover fragments of a past that refuses to stay buried along the way, alongside the idea of having a quite limited set of weapons and tools, solving complex puzzles, dealing with weird enemies, and facing a bunch of mysteries.
A detail that already pops up for me is the first-person perspective, which seems to make the experience more immersive and even a bit claustrophobic from its trailer, being a nice fit for the Silent Hill franchise.
Unfortunately, Silent Hill: Townfall has no release date yet, but hey, we got a pretty nice debut trailer, which points to a new chapter that maintains the franchise’s core themes of tragedy and loss while introducing a fresh setting.
