TITAN ISLES aims high, and developer Psytec Games has done everything right to impress PS VR2 players. The game fully embraces the hardware, featuring dynamic shadows, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback in both the controllers and headset, dynamic foveated rendering, and a native 90Hz performance on the base PS5. On PS5 Pro, it pushes even further with native 120Hz resolution.
Oh and, lo & behold – full bHaptics support 😱
DOES IT SUIT YOU…
TITAN ISLES also features four distinct exosuits, each offering wildly different abilities. Some allow you to fly, others equip you with a bow or a deadly disc. Certain suits let you wall-run, teleport, or even swing through the environment like Spider-Man. In short, mastering them all will take weeks — if not months.
To make things even more interesting, each suit comes with 12+ upgrades, adding further depth and encouraging experimentation with different playstyles.
TO PLAY ALONE, OR TO PLAY WITH OTHERS…
The game offers a full four-player co-op mode, with each player using their own exosuit (see above). I found it to be utter chaos — not because anyone was bad, but because everyone was having an absolute blast.
I just played a match with one player on Meta Quest and another on SteamVR, which confirms full crossplay support. That’s a huge plus.
The story, and even the side story, felt rather uninteresting to me. However, the gameplay more than makes up for it in several ways. It’s not often I find myself standing in the menu struggling to choose which character (or exosuit, in this case) to play — but here, I genuinely do.
Fully upgrading a suit requires more or less a complete playthrough, giving the progression real weight and long-term motivation.
THE SOUND OF MUSIC…
Now over to the very best part of the game: the music.
Honestly, I want this OST playing in my car. It’s incredibly well suited to the atmosphere — emotional, powerful, and layered in a way that almost feels bigger than the game itself. At times, it even feels like the soundtrack is screaming, “I deserve more than this.”
And why do I say that? Because the vast open levels often feel underpopulated, with relatively few enemies to fight. Much of my time — and my friends’ — was spent searching for collectibles while the music carried the experience. That’s a shame, because when battles do happen, the build-up tracks significantly elevate the immersion and intensity. In those moments, the game truly comes alive.
THE GAMEPLAY…
Alternative Routes, New Game+ And Lots More…
It also has to be mentioned that before starting each level, you can choose between multiple routes. This adds variety and slightly alters each playthrough, giving the game more depth than you might initially expect.
There are four difficulty levels available, and once you complete the game, you unlock an optional New Game+ mode. And it doesn’t stop there — you can keep pushing further (I literally just played a match on NG+++ a few minutes ago).
And I haven’t even mentioned the collectibles yet. Yes, they are well hidden, and there are well over a hundred of them to chase down. Completionists are going to be busy for quite some time.
In other words, this becomes a colossal, near-endless ascent — a relentless Titan hunt unfolding high above the shattered skies of the isles.
THE VERDICT…
TITAN ISLES is at its absolute best when played with friends. It can be surprisingly relaxing, adding a strong social element, but it can also become incredibly tense. When players truly understand their exosuits’ capabilities and start coordinating tactics, the game genuinely shines.
Playing solo, however, can feel a bit underwhelming — unless you significantly ramp up the difficulty.
Once I completed the game, I realized I wanted more — a lot more. More Titan boss fights, and perhaps a stronger dose of bullet-hell-style gameplay to really push the intensity even further.
That said, the game is generally very fun, with no jank to speak of. Technically, it runs smoothly and feels extremely polished, the fact that it makes full use of every PS VR2 feature is a huge bonus — and something many developers out there should take note of.
The trophy list, on the other hand, is one of the most hardcore I’ve seen in a VR title. Do not expect an easy Platinum here.
For me, this is a genuinely solid experience — one I can easily see myself playing for hundreds of hours, provided I have friends or random online players ready to suit up and dive in.
It’s an easy recommendation for co-op players — but a more cautious one for solo VR gamers. When it works, it soars. When it doesn’t, you can’t help but see the missed potential…
Titan Isles releases on the 24th of February and is reasonably priced at £19.99 / $24.99
