How to Complete Tox Clears in Marathon

Marathon has a few smaller activities for you to complete as you run around each map. These activities can spawn as a few things, but the one we’ll focus on is Tox Clears.

In this extraction shooter, Tox Clears will spawn randomly at various POIs and will contain better-than-average loot if you can get into them. They can be a great way to get some solid loot without being too overly risky, similar to lockboxes.

You’ve probably seen the rooms or maybe even gone in and tried your hand at looting them without clearing the toxin. That’s not a bad plan, but there is a way to clear out the toxins and get inside so you can loot to your heart’s content.

How to Complete Tox Clears

If you’re hoping to get inside one of these toxic chambers, you’ll need to do a couple of things first. They aren’t overly complicated to do, but you’ll almost always notice they haven’t been looted.

Getting into the room requires a Hazard Override Card and making your way to one of the Tox Clear activities. There are a few stipulations on that, so let’s get right into it.

Forget bunny-hopping and sliding about, we’re going in slow.

Where to find a Hazard Override Card

Hazard Override Cards are effectively totally random and can spawn on any map, but for the most part, you’ll end up finding them around the map, not in containers, much like Access Clearance Codes. If you manage to find one, it’s not a bad idea to head to a POI in search of one of the Tox Clears for the extra loot.

They can also be stored in your Vault if you’re not in a situation where you can make it to a Tox Clear, but want to hang on to it for a later run. There’s another way to do Tox Clears without needing the Hazard Override Card, but they make it significantly easier.

Getting inside the Toxic Room

If you have a Hazard Override Card, when you approach the Tox Clear, look around the outside of the room. You’ll be able to see an orange laptop-shaped computer that you can interact with.

This will remove the Hazard Override Card from your inventory, but it’ll shut off the gas flowing into the room after a few seconds. You’ll get an announcement that it’s safe to enter, and you can go in and get your loot goblin on.

The gas will come on again after a minute or two, so make sure you loot quickly.

If you don’t have a Hazard Override Card, you can still get inside, but you’ll need at least some of these things.

  • Mechanic’s Kit — Ends the toxic effect
  • Health Kits — Will heal the damage done by the toxic effect
  • Triage Med-Drone — This can heal through the tick damage

Once you’re inside, there should be a few boxes to loot that’ll contain at minimum some uncommon and rare loot. It’s possible that other kinds of boxes can spawn in the room as well, so you should be thorough.

Just remember you’re not alone on Tau Ceti IV, and when you activate the room, it’ll start a loud alarm while it empties out the room. When you’ve got good loot, you’ll almost always run into people, so try to be careful and make sure you extract with your loot.
