It’s been just over a month since the second season of Amazon Prime’s Fallout show concluded, and while no new Fallout game announcement coincided with that finale, there are still plenty of rumors and supposed leaks going around about the next Fallout game development.
Many fans expected that, after the successful shadow drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in Spring 2025, Bethesda and Virtuos would similarly remaster Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas or both games to tie into the success of the show.
Rumors of Fallout 3 Remastered projects have persisted since even before the Fallout show debuted, but a post by Iron Galaxy Studios, who supported the development of both Fallout 4 VR and Fallout 76, has seemingly suggested that a New Vegas project may be in the works.

Now, a recent listing of an upcoming McFarlane Toys Fallout 3 Remastered T-45B Nuka Cola power armor figure has seemingly once again confirmed that the remastered game is real, causing many to wonder if all of these rumors and leaks are part of a marketing strategy by Bethesda or if they’re losing control of their products.
Bethesda’s Recent History of Leaks
Similar to how Ubisoft has been famous for how frequently their Assassin’s Creed games are leaked long before their official reveal, Bethesda games have a habit of surfacing via leaks.
For instance, Starfield was officially announced at E3 2018, but details of the game were leaked out long before its official unveiling, dating back to 2013, when journalists discovered Bethesda trademarking Starfield, while insiders would later reveal in 2015 that the game would be centered around space combat and exploration.
Oblivion Remastered was also revealed early by leaks, with one former Virtuos employee posting on Reddit about the project in 2023. Later that year, internal Microsoft documents surfaced, revealing the development of OR alongside other projects that were originally pitched in 2020 when Microsoft began attempting to purchase Bethesda from ZeniMax.
A Fallout 3 Remastered project was also featured in those leaked internal documents, but Oblivion Remastered went on to be the subject of numerous leaks in 2025, with Virtuos itself accidentally releasing images of the remaster before the game’s shadow drop announcement.
Rumors of Fallout 3 Remastered projects have persisted since even before the Fallout show debuted
With the success of both Oblivion Remastered and the Fallout show, the official announcement of a Fallout 3 or New Vegas remaster seems inevitable at this point, whether these leaks were intentional by Bethesda or not.
If this was the plan by Bethesda or Microsoft all along, to let the leaks slowly build up hype and anticipation for the remaster before a shadow drop, then Bethesda and Microsoft may be geniuses. They likely know based on how popular the Fallout IP is right now and how a Fallout 3 Remastered game would do well, no matter if it was shadow-dropped or released like traditional games.
However, if these leaks were not planned by Bethesda or Microsoft, they may need to work on their marketing and confidentiality policies and procedures, as Fallout 3 Remastered is one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming right now, alongside Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced.
