John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando features four distinct classes for players to master. This FPS zombie shooter certainly doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to utilizing the available skill trees and skill points.
The Strike is just one of these classes, but it is probably the one people find the easiest to use. Its primary focus is to wipe out large hordes of enemies with a blast and clear a path for the others to do their jobs.
This guide will cover two different builds you can chase, even if you aren’t at max level for a class. Don’t be afraid to play around with some things and use these as a suggestion to make your own builds.

The Best Strike Builds
There are two really great builds you can make up with the Strike class. One focuses on getting your ability back as fast as possible, while the other focuses more heavily on flames.
Neither one is the technically correct way to play, and you’ll have plenty of skill points left over to flesh out your build how you like. There are some things you should focus on, but the most important will always be your zombie shooting skills.
Each build will be broken down into a main ability, the one you actually use in combat, and a primary and secondary skill that are necessary to make the build work. Anything beyond that can be adjusted based on playstyle, allowing for some freedom of choice.
10 Indie Co-Op Games That Outperform AAA Titles
From chaotic kitchens to epic mountain climbs with friends
The Big Boom Build
|
Main Ability |
Power Spike |
|---|---|
|
Primary Skill |
Intensification IV |
|
Secondary Skill |
Energized |
This build centers around the Power Spike ability and focuses on the left side of the skill tree. It works best in situations where you’re defending objectives and can get tons of kills.
By combining it with Energized and some of the Intensification skills, you can wipe out huge swarms of enemies quickly and then do it again just moments later. It’ll refresh your ability almost instantly if you do things correctly. It isn’t particularly great against the tougher enemies like the Goon, but it does work great for defending objectives.
Pros:
- Great at defending objectives
- Wipes out whole waves of enemies
- Helping with kills restores energy, too
Cons:
- Doesn’t build up energy between waves
- Can’t help against many special enemies
- Stuns allies and enemies alike

Here are 10 FPS games currently slated to launch in 2026 that players should keep an eye out for.
The Firebrand Build
|
Main Ability |
Fireball |
|---|---|
|
Primary Skill |
Supernova |
|
Secondary Skill |
Energized |
This build is significantly more focused on the first ability you get, Fireball. When combined with Supernova, it gives you the ability to coat large swathes of the battlefield in fire.
Energized is important here as well, but that could easily be replaced by building into Intensification again. You’ll also have to pick up the Thermodynamic skill, which is why using Fireball makes more sense than using some of the others. Just be careful what you set on fire because you might be immune to fire with this build, but your friends won’t be.
Pros:
- Controls the battlefield
- Can do good damage to special enemies
- Let’s you run indefinitely
Cons:
- Can set off explosives
- Can box teammates in
- Burns allies and enemies alike
No matter what you think you’d prefer, it’s incredibly easy to restructure and try something else. You can also mix and match with your co-op party, so you can set up some interesting combinations between classes.
Experimenting in FPS games like this is important, so feel free to explore and really try out some of the other skills that you find interesting.
