All the Starfield news Bethesda just announced

Another day that ends in “y,” another day that the only thing we truly know about The Elder Scrolls 6 is that it’s the sixth Elder Scrolls game. But Bethesda still had a busy news day Tuesday — only that all the studio’s big reveals and announcements were to do with Starfield, its 2023 action-RPG about seeing how much junk one intrepid astronaut can fit on a single spaceship.

Here’s every major Starfield announcement Bethesda just made, all of which go into effect on April 7.

PS5 release

Yes, after two and a half long years of Xbox console exclusivity, Starfield is finally coming to PlayStation 5. It follows in the wake of the Bethesda-published Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which similarly was released on Xbox Series X before making its way to PS5. That gap was only about a year, though.

A new price point

The base edition of Starfield will now cost $49.99, down from $69.99. Its premium edition, previously $99.99, will now be $69.99 and include both story expansions, 2024’s Shattered Space and 2026’s Terran Armada — another item Bethesda just announced.

A new story expansion

The Terran Armada expansion aims to address criticisms of Shattered Space — that it was too limited in scope for a space-faring game, being set on a singular planet, and that it didn’t offer enough bang for its buck (it cost $29.99 at launch). Available for $9.99 stand-alone, Terran Armada is about an invading force leading an army of robots, and is set across the Settled Systems. Read more about the expansion here.

The ‘biggest update’ ever

Bethesda’s biggest Starfield update is also the free one: the Free Lanes update. Free Lanes is billed as the game’s “biggest” update since launch. First and foremost, it allows players to pilot ships seamlessly between planets in a star system, addressing a major critique of the base game. But it also revamps systems like crafting and fast travel, adds more party members via both existing NPCs and new ones, and introduces a new ground vehicle. Best of all, you can also earn a Bond villain asteroid base. Read more about the Free Lanes update in our preview here.
