6 Things We Wish We Knew Before Starting Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert has a lot going on. Even in the first few hours, there is a seismic amount of systems, locations, and objectives thrown at the player. Pearl Abyss has stuffed so much content into its newest game. Make no mistake, it’s a questionable onboarding process, and it’s pretty gruelling. The thing is, with so much to do and see, it’s easy to miss the forest for the trees. Here’s a bunch of stuff we wish we knew before diving into the world of Crimson Desert

Ring the bells in town

The starting area, Hernand, has multiple bells hidden throughout its breadth, with more in the world at large. Despite them being on your mini map, they’re easy to rush past, focusing more on the bounties or exploration that are calling your name. The thing is, these bells shouldn’t be missed. The map is shrouded in a thick fog of war, making it difficult to navigate without fully exploring it. Climbing the tower and ringing the bell helps clear the fog on the map, making it easier to explore and find things in the area. Each bell reveals a good portion of the surrounding area, making it much easier to navigate.

Get a bandit mask and start stealing

Crimson Desert is very litigious, with a reputation system that improves or worsens based on your actions. While it’s definitely a good idea to keep that reputation up, sometimes, sticky fingers lead to good loot. If you’re looking to walk the shadier path in Hernand, you’ll need a bandit mask.

You can buy one from the back alley vendor in the south of Hernand, but you can just as easily kill a couple of bandits. They drop them quite often. Once you have it, you can start stealing. You should still be careful and only go for higher worth items, as every time you steal, your reputation drops. When that happens, toss some coins to beggars and greet everyone to help level things out.

Focus on levelling up stamina, health, and spirit early

There’s a huge skill tree in Crimson Desert, with a ton of different skills and abilities that can genuinely change combat. The thing is, your core stats in stamina, health, and spirit should be a focus early on. Stamina lets you climb, fly, block, and run longer, meaning it can impact traversal and combat more than just a new skill. Health and spirit are just as important, letting you live longer and do more of the attacks you’ll start to unlock. With the amount of mobs you’ll be fighting, it’s important to live through the encounter early on rather than looking flashy doing big moves. Focus on those fundamentals.

Feed animals to raise their trust quickly and gain new companions

There are animals all over Crimson Desert, and it’s important to give them some time in the midst of all the fighting. You can pet and feed your horse to raise their trust, which can unlock new skills that can make traversal much faster. If you find stray cats or dogs, you can also pet, hold, and feed them.

Get them up to a trust of 100, and you can get them as a companion, which lets them journey with you. They can loot corpses for you, saving you precious time instead of going over to each individual body to loot it. There is a daily limit to how much trust you can build with them, so make sure to sleep to pass the time if you’re looking to do it quickly.

Summon human companions to help you fight enemies

Once you get to Chapter 3, you’ll unlock your camp and gain a new companion. You can switch to them and fight using their combat style, with the first one being a much faster option for crushing through foes. The thing is, you can also summon them to help you fight. Pull up your companion wheel, and you’ll see a summon button. It takes a few seconds for it to kick in, where you’ll then have to press start to rendezvous with them. They can’t help with story missions, but they’re a massive help with clearing camps and fighting enemies.

Get Palmar Pills

Palmar pills are an incredibly important resource. They can revive you in a fight, bringing you back up to 30 percent and letting you continue the battle. They look like small black balls in the environment, so it’s worth keeping an eye out as you explore. They’re usually on gravestones or on stacks of other items in the environment. You can also find a recipe for them north of Hernand Town in the Shadow’s Whisper Cave, so it’s worth a trip up to save yourself in some fights.

There’s plenty more to find and do in Crimson Desert, but these beginner tips should help you get off on the right foot. Back to Pywel we go.
