Hype Train Activated: A Long Survive Teaser PS VR2 / SteamVR

There’s something people rarely talk about: how impersonal, negative, or downright annoying some developers and press managers can be — and, on the flip side, how genuinely great others are.

Last night, I got to meet one of the good ones. He reached out to me on Discord after we’d exchanged a few messages on X about their upcoming game, A Long Survive, which is releasing on PS VR2 and SteamVR in less than a month.

All I did was ask about PS VR2 stress‑testing for their online servers before launch, and suddenly we were deep into a conversation about the game, the studio, and the history behind the team.

This is exactly how the VR industry should be. Yes, it’s time‑consuming, and that’s probably why it doesn’t happen more often — but in my opinion, taking an hour or two to establish a relationship with press and players is something every studio should make time for. Is that really too much to ask?

Anyway, let’s get to what I originally planned to talk about: the upcoming PS VR2 and SteamVR release of A Long Survive, a game that has already been available on the Quest/Meta platform for a while.

For obvious reasons, I’ll be focusing mainly on the PS VR2 version here.

Who Are Friendly Fire Studios…

Friendly Fire Studios is a tiny Spanish team of just six people, struggling to get visibility across the board — which, let’s be honest, is a familiar story for most VR developers. Even with appearances on WithoutParole, GameCats and the VRShowcase.

It’s still incredibly hard to stand out in today’s overcrowded digital stores.

Part of the team previously worked at Epic Games, and others built a VR Arena/Laser Tag experience before deciding to form their own studio. They’ve been in the industry long enough to know exactly how brutal it can be to get noticed.

That’s one of the reasons I’m writing this: to help give both the game and the studio a bit more awareness.

What Is: A Long Survive?

A Long Survive is a cooperative survival shooter built around resource management and fighting some of the largest enemy waves ever seen in VR. You’ll need to build defences, coordinate in real time, and choose from four unique heroes — each with their own abilities — while unlocking skills, weapons, and structures through a dynamic progression system.

The PS VR2 & SteamVR Launch Will Also Bring A Major Update To The Existing Meta Quest Version, Including:

  • Graphical improvements
  • Enhanced character models
  • New VFX and soundscapes
  • Refined combat feel
  • Advanced lighting
  • New map discovery elements

Players will once again defend the Nexus, building defences and coordinating as a team while facing massively increased enemy hordes for a more intense survival experience.

Fully Optimised for PlayStation VR2…

The PS VR2 version has been built to take full advantage of the hardware, offering:

  • Native 120fps on BASE PS5
  • Adaptive triggers for weapon feedback
  • Haptics in both controllers and the headset
  • Enhanced visual fidelity
  • 5‑player co‑op and 8‑player PvP

The full 50‑wave horde mode from the Meta version

Immersion is further boosted through responsive environmental feedback. And no, there are currently no PS5 Pro‑specific features, because the game already runs maxed out on the base PS5.

The SteamVR version will also receive major technical improvements, though those details aren’t covered here. But yes — it will be far superior to the Meta version.

PREPARE TO DIE A LOT…

Classic Mode: A 50‑wave mode with full freedom of movement. Checkpoints every 5 waves.

Conquest Mode: A 20‑wave mode where you must move to designated zones. No checkpoints. Much harder.

Neither of the modes uses procedurally generated levels — everything is handcrafted.

You will fail. You will die. A lot.

But every match gives you something — your character’s level up, your account progresses, and new skills gradually make things easier.
