The future of consoles seems secure at PlayStation. Indeed, CEO Hideaki Nishino has reaffirmed his commitment to these devices despite the current challenges surrounding memory and storage.
During his interview with Famitsu, Nishino reiterated that a console is “necessary” for playing video games.
“I remain convinced that a game console is essential for playing games. I believe that by leveraging technologies that can be used in various forms and contexts, we can create entirely new gaming experiences.
For example, while PlayStation is strongly associated with playing on a TV in the living room, we’ve also developed the PlayStation Portal to enable comfortable gaming in other settings. We want to constantly take on new challenges in order to offer gaming experiences tailored to different lifestyles.”
Sony is therefore expected to continue its efforts by strengthening the hybrid aspect of the next generation. The PS6 should be available not only as a traditional home console but also as a portable device that can be taken anywhere.
In addition, the president of the Japanese giant’s gaming division was asked about the lack of a PC version for the studios’ upcoming single-player exclusives. He simply reiterated what we already knew, noting that live service games will always be available on PC.
“If releasing a title on PC allows us to optimize the gaming experience, we will continue to explore that option. Our current policy is to optimize the PlayStation gaming experience for single-player games developed in-house.
At the same time, we believe it’s important for service-based games to reach a wider audience through online multiplayer, which is why we continue to view releases on PS5 and PC as the standard.”
