Playground Games, which has handled development for the Forza Horizon franchise since its inception in 2013, is hard at work on the Fable reboot, set to release in 2026 (we hope).
That hasn’t stopped speculation about the future of the Forza Horizon franchise, though. Its last entry was four years ago with the critically acclaimed Forza Horizon 5. Since then, Forza in general has seen one release: 2023’s Forza Motorsport. It’s a far cry from the annual releases we used to see since 2011, which rotated between Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon for a decade.
Gamescom 2025 came and went without an announcement about Forza’s future. On the one hand, this isn’t entirely surprising. Again, Playground is busy with Fable, and Turn 10 recently underwent layoffs. They did have a job listing back in 2022 that hinted at the next entry in the Forza Horizon franchise, but it’s been radio silence since then.
That silence may soon be ending. Don’t be surprised if the next entry in the Forza Horizon franchise gets announced at another upcoming event: Tokyo Game Show.
Forza Horizon 6 Reportedly Taking Place In Japan With A Targeted 2026 Release
According to a post on Reddit, a now-deleted Instagram post shows a member of the Forza Horizon team photographing and scanning a Kei car, presumably for the next entry in the franchise.
If you’ve never heard of Kei, they’re an ultra-compact car that’s almost exclusively available in Japan. This would indicate that Forza Horizon 6 will be taking place in Japan, a location that has been highly requested among fans since the launch of the franchise.
This also matches up with what industry insider NateTheHate2 is reporting. Nate says that the game’s reveal is intended for this year’s Tokyo Game Show, which takes place in September. “The game’s setting is Japan,” he says, “making TGS an apt venue for reveal.”
Nate also adds that the intended and hopeful release date for the game is 2026, but doesn’t specify who is handling development. WindowsCentral also reports that their sources have heard the same thing: Forza Horizon 6 will take place in Japan. They also mention that the game, like Fable, will be utilizing the upgraded ForzaTech engine.
Beyond that, however, release platforms are not mentioned. We saw Forza Horizon 5 come to the PS5 earlier this year. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the first Xbox game that will be making its way to the Switch 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if Forza Horizon 6 is available for, at minimum, the PS5 at or around launch, as is the case with the upcoming Gears of War: Reloaded. As for the Nintendo Switch 2, however, time will tell.
