Beloved horror and Halloween convention Midsummer Scream celebrated its 8th anniversary over the weekend, and fans of all things spooky joined the festivities at the Long Beach Convention Center.
The three-day convention gave fans a chance to meet some of the biggest names in the scene, including Casandra Peterson, David Howard Thornton, and Greg Nicotero. Iconic composer John Carpenter only had a signing on Saturday, and as expected, the line to meet them was one of the longest at the convention. This fall, Carpenter will have a handful of musical performances in New York City and Los Angeles; tickets for these shows are on sale right now here.
For the kids (and kids at heart) in attendance, the Paranormal Pixie’s Pumpkin Path offered a slew of family-friendly activities, including a reading from Barry Under Your Bed and a dance party hosted by LVCRFT’s Skeleton Sam. The Hall of Shadows brought a slew of haunting interactive experiences such as the CarnEvil of Souls, Sid’s Twisted Toy Box, and the Haunted Carwash 360 Photo experience. On the show floor, attendees were able to take photos at some marvelous photo ops at booths such as Discount Cemetery Los Angeles and LA Ghostbusters.
Throughout the event, attendees were able to witness a bevy of haunting live performances. One standout performance came courtesy of Urban Death, which has been spooking Los Angeles for 20 years now. Their Midsummer Scream appearance was a bite-sized preview of what’s to come this October at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group (tickets on sale here). After two decades in Los Angeles, Urban Death is looking to branch out with a show in Las Vegas.
Another live performance standing out at the convention was Killer Fitness’ Slumber Party & Slashers Stage Show, which delivered a spine-tingling fashion show on the Showfloor Stage. During Saturday’s fashion show, attendees were treated to a special musical performance from Horroroxx. Fronted by Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives director Tom McLoughlin, the band offered a quick two-song set covering horror classics “Pet Sematery” from The Ramones and “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” from Alice Cooper. More information about Killer Fitness, which had its grand opening earlier this past spring, can be found here.
