While fans were excited to see the new installment in the Mortal Kombat film franchise, they’re gonna have to wait a bit longer now.
Revealed today, the Mortal Kombat II film has been delayed to May 15, 2026. The film was originally slated for an October 24 release. The film was moved to avoid competition with various films dropping in October, including Tron: Ares and The Black Phone 2. A new poster with the new date has also been unveiled.
A synopsis for Mortal Kombat II reads:
From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II. This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
While fans have to wait until next May, they’ll be preoccupied with the forthcoming Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Releasing this year, the collection includes a slew of classic Mortal Kombat titles in arcade and console formats.
