Rayman Definitive Edition Announced by Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Team

Whenever a franchise hits a major milestone anniversary, fans wait with bated breath to see if the developer will announce something special. It doesn’t always happen (yeah, Nintendo, I’m looking at you), but when it does, it is a pure mix of excitement and nostalgia.

And fortunately for Rayman fans, it seems that they are in luck today! That’s because, out of pretty much nowhere and taking advantage of the spotlight on this Thursday’s State of Play, Ubisoft announced a massive surprise for those who enjoy the adventures of the iconic limbless hero.

A Remake for 30 Years of the Limbless Hero

The surprise is the announcement of Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition, described by Ubisoft as the “definitive edition” of the franchise’s original title, first released in 1995.

It is developed by Digital Eclipse (which specializes in high-quality retro game compilations) in collaboration with Ubisoft Montpellier, the developers behind the amazing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

10 Upcoming Action Games to Keep on Your Radar in 2026

2026 is shaping up to be a great year for smashing, shooting, and slashing stuff.

According to the press release, this is a collection that “is a true love letter to the character’s legacy,” and that’s why it features five different versions of the classic game, including the PlayStation, Atari Jaguar, MS-DOS, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Color versions.

It sounds like an enormous blast from the past, especially since the studio’s focus was to preserve everything fans love about the original experience literally.

The surprise is the announcement of Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition, described by Ubisoft as the “definitive edition” of the franchise’s original title, first released in 1995.

But that’s not all! In addition to keeping everything from the original, players can also expect a bunch of new content, such as over 120 extra levels from bonus level packs, a reimagined soundtrack by composer Christophe Héral, and even a previously unreleased SNES prototype, known for some pretty iconic work on Beyond Good & Evil, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Rayman Origins, and Rayman Legends.

In terms of quality-of-life improvements, Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition sounds pretty packed to make it more approachable and accessible to modern audiences, with a 60-second rewind, infinite lives, and an invincibility mode. After all, we all need a break once in a while in the middle of those brutal platforming sequences from the original Rayman.

Last but not least, the collection will also display a kind of “digital museum” for the franchise, with an exclusive interactive documentary with the original developers, never-before-seen concept art and sketches, and more.

However, I think the best part of all of this is that we don’t have to wait at all to play this baby. Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition will be available starting tomorrow for a suggested retail price of $19.99 on Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Ubisoft Store and Steam).

If you are a physical media collector, you will have to wait just a bit longer, as the physical edition is set to launch in select regions this June.
