Huntrix’s award show performance ended with the previously unthinkable revelation that Rumi was not who everyone thought she was. In her most vulnerable moment of pain and humiliation, a completely different version of Rumi surfaced that we hadn’t seen before… her entire posture transformed from the confident warrior we knew and loved into that of a slumped over, frightened child. With her greatest shame exposed for the whole world to see, the full weight of her past became a burden too heavy for her to even raise up her head. Fortunately, there was a new song and a comeback story hidden in those scars 🙂
The “shame spirals” we face in life are a weapon designed by our enemy to cause us to drop our heads down, hide our lights away, and convince us to disqualify ourselves from the battlefield… but we can lift up our heads again with the knowledge that our Heavenly Father knew us at our very worst and still loved us the very most. The patterns that once defined us are now the scars that remind us that He has continued to love us through every step of our journey, and that includes the ones we regret the most. No matter how much we let ourselves down, He has a comeback story for every repentant prodigal… not just to bring us back home, but to raise our heads back up with a new song in our hearts.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth— praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:2-3
But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3:3
