We’re Getting Sunset Overdrive Vibes From Ikumi Nakamura’s New Game

Kemuri, the debut game from Ikumi Nakamura’s studio Unseen, has revealed a new gameplay trailer at PlayStation’s State Of Play 2026, showing a world in which you can hunt yokai or wield their powers.

First announced at The Game Awards 2023 with a cinematic teaser, this first look at gameplay shows a colourful world set in the titular Kemuri City, inspired by Asian cities, with tall buildings that players can parkour up and over, reminiscent of Sunset Overdrive.

What makes this city unique is that yokai, creatures and spirits from Japanese folklore, can be found within it. By performing a “foxwindow” hand gesture, yokai hunters can peer into the paranormal realm where they can encounter yokai.

The trailer shows some familiar yokai that you might recognise from other games like Nioh, though you will not just be hunting yokai but also wearing them as a diverse range of apparel. This isn’t just cosmetic but also grants new abilities for traversal and combat.

You’ll also not necessarily be hunting yokai alone, as you can team up with up to two other yokai hunters in online co-op. With a focus on teaming up to take down mythical creatures before wearing them, it’s almost like a supernatural Monster Hunter with more acrobatic traversal.

The game is still in development but is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 in 2027.
