Quentin Tarantino's two Kill Bill movies are finally hitting theaters as a single masterpiece

Quentin Tarantino fans are finally getting the chance to see Kill Bill the way the director always intended with Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, a unified cut of the two-part martial arts epic, which will premiere in theaters across the U.S. on Dec. 5, 2025.

Originally released as Vol. 1 (2003) and Vol. 2 (2004), the films were initially designed to be one sweeping story. The combined version eliminates the first film’s cliffhanger ending and the recap that opens the second. For this new theatrical rollout, Tarantino has also added a previously unseen 7-and-a-half-minute animated sequence, making the cut a rare treat for longtime fans. Select theaters will also screen the film in 70mm and 35mm.

“I wrote and directed it as one movie—and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie,” Tarantino said in a statement. “The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”

Although the combined cut has had limited showings at festivals and special screenings, this marks the first time Tarantino’s unrated vision will be played widely across theaters, complete with an intermission. Kill Bill has withstood the test of time to become a highly revered two-parter film that has influenced many contemporary artists.

The story follows Uma Thurman as former assassin The Bride, who wakes from a coma after being ambushed by her former boss and lover, Bill (David Carradine), during her wedding rehearsal. With her unborn child stolen, and her life shattered, she sets out on a brutal path of vengeance against the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, played by Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, and Daryl Hannah, before finally facing Bill himself.

Kill Bill is like a boss rush game that pays homage to ’70s Kung-Fu movies, a glorious pairing that many have hoped would spur a third film.
